August 6, 2021: Hrimmi has a heart-to-heart conversation with Alys

Hrimmi: Hey you.
Alys: Hay is for horses.
H: I am well aware of that.
A: My name is Alys
H: I am also well aware of that.
A: What gives?
H: You are asking me? You usually ask Tyra or Tinni or Raudi.
A: And you.
H: Me, very seldom. I have begun to feel as though I am at the bottom of your list.
A: I don’t have a list.
H: Well then, it’s in your head.
A: Why do you feel this way?
H: Because you don’t pay much attention to me.
A: Not so. Who have I been riding consistently, for over a year?
H: Me.
A: And who have I been feeding first when I ask you three mares to go to the target?
H: Me.

Hrimmi ready for driving

A: Then why are you saying this?
H: Yes, you do ride me, and you do feed me first at the target. But the rest of the time, your attention is focused on the other two mares. An example: Like the past two days, you first introduced Raudi and Tyra to your friend, and then pointed out their attributes. All you said to her about me is that my name is Hrimfara, meaning frosty traveler.
A: I would have told her more but she was not listening.
H: There is always the likelihood that she will listen to what you have to say.
A: Yes, there is always that likelihood. . .
H: So, you agree, I am the odd one out?
A: I am sorry if I have contributed to what seems to be. I will introduce you first to company.
H: That’s almost inconsequential. I want you to somehow indicate that you care as much about me as you do about them.
A: Well, the truth be known, I do care about you as much as I care about the other two. You are a very special horse. You are a daughter of Signy, who we loved dearly. She gave us you because she knew that her days were numbered. You have all her wonderful attributes – you too are kind and gentle, and also very, very intelligent.
H: And?
A: You have the most beautiful markings of any pinto horse I have ever seen.
H: I once heard you tell someone that you didn’t like the pinto coloring.
A: It’s true. But you are the exception. You have unique markings – for instance, the brown spot in the middle of your white saddle. And you have a snip of white on your forehead and on your nose.
H: True, very true.
A: Your only vice is that you grab for grass when we are out on trail.
H: The others do this too.
A: Yes. But it is frustrating, that is the grabbiness.
H: Can we focus on the positive?
A: Otherwise, it’s all positive.
H: You forgot to mention that I pull a cart.
A: And carry a pack saddle.
H: And stand patiently for the farrier, for grooming, and load nicely into the trailer.
A: Yes, you are a dream horse. And in the future, I will point out ALL your attributes to visitors. Anything else?
H: More hay pellets.
A: More hay pellets coming your way.
