March 3, 2026: The Imagination

I believe in it. And because I believe in it, I am able to figure things out. I also feel confident about this. I suspect that being sure that I can call upon the workings of my subconscious, and that it will come through, is something that I became cognizant of in my later years.

A good example. I am working with Lynsey on the Mat Su Orchestra benefit concert poster. The top line had us flummoxed. I wanted to go with Enjoy the Ride but Lynsey thought that the fair people might think that we stole this – even though as I argued, this was the fair theme two years ago.

We both considered Enjoy the Read – but weren’t happy with this.

I talked to her early this evening and I finally told her that I was on my way out to clean up after the horses and that I’d then figure out something.

I did. I picked up poop and I played around with the words train and read. Nothing materialized. I then ran the words all aboard through my head. All Aboard was good. Then I put the words Concert Caboose after all aboard. This wasn’t at all an ahh haa moment. I mulled it over, All Aboard the Concert Caboose – I think that I was well into search mode and not ready to give it up.

But finally, I thought, this makes sense. There is the all aboard invite. And the concert caboose sounds like a literal place. In the poster, the animals are in the concert caboose, playing instruments.

I finished the animal chores and then I went inside, upstairs, turned on the computer and sent Lynsey what I came up with. She was good with it.
It does interest me that I said I was going to do something, in this case clean up after the horses, and this is when I came up with the phrase.

This was a lot like writing, and specifically the other day when I decided to write an article about the BLBP art gallery. I was writing ideas and this materialized. The one question I asked was, do I have enough information here for an article? The answer, after I put some of the things that brought this into being was yes.

I then did a handwritten draft. Then I did a computer draft.

Honestly, I wonder how people who don’t know how to get their ideas directly on paper get by.

I’d love to get a school going – one of the things that would be a part of the core curriculum would be learning cursive writing.

There is the inverse opposite here – and this is, math. There is, at the stage I’m at, little creativity involved. You learn formulas and plug in the variables. I’m sure that at the upper levels that there is more than leeway for creativity.

I look at higher level math books, and I think that it takes people a lifetime to get there. The question is, is it the same with writing? These are good questions.

Next: 63. 3/4/26: Mission Accomplished
