March 4, 2026: Mission Accomplished

A big one. The two pallets of books are going to Kenya, Africa. I seriously doubted that this was going to happen. I still am wondering if the books will make it to their final destination. But, once they leave the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel, they will be out of my hands.

I am hoping that freight is continuing to move in a normal fashion, which could be problematic, given the current state of the world. They would not make it to the Middle East.

Would I do this again? Yes, in a heartbeat. I don’t know how difficult it will be to make these connections.

We learned this morning, when we read our email, that Lisa Simmons, who is the Public Relations person at TOTE, had been in touch with the powers that be at Carlile, and that TOTE would pay and that Carlile would ship.

Books waiting to go to Kenya

It was a project in which there was a great deal of uncertainty. I did not think that all the pieces of the puzzle were going to fall into place. I am now thinking that we can pack the books into Robert’s truck on Saturday so that the high schoolers can be involved in this.

I hope that the books are well received and that they are life changing. It is interesting – books that I previously would not think would be of interest to readers are going. For example, I am now taking cookbooks to the Food Bank. And today, my friend Mabel dropped in and requested that I save her the gardening books, of which we have a large number.

And the religious books are being taken by a local mission group. I am going to ask the person who picks up the books if she wants the Easter books.

I pause. Maybe I will sleep well tonight. I do have something to fret about. Tomorrow, I have to go to Butte Elementary School and read books to several groups of students.

Once again, had anyone told me that my life would careen off in this direction I would have been incredulous.

Some days, I wish I had more years left than I do. Maybe in a few years they will be able to reverse the aging process. I would like an additional ten years.

Still cold out, not conducive to running. But I will tell you this: The fact the light is coming back is making everyone a bit more energetic and chipper. I like it when I talk to people who have been drinking coffee because they are generally upbeat and laugh at my jokes. The same holds true about the effect of more light on most individuals.

The horses are doing good – the additional daylight is making them very chipper. They enjoy being let out of their enclosure morning and evening.

I might not sleep well tonight. But I will sleep well tomorrow night.
