October 3, 2026: Full Circle

Here we go again, disagreeable weather. I woke up at 7:00 a.m., actually I never fell asleep. It is more correct to say that I lifted my head and looked out the window. And what did I see? I saw the gold leaves on the trees blowing in the wind. And I heard the roaring sound that meant that we were again experiencing high winds.

I went back to sleep, sort of, and had a dream, almost a nightmare –all I now remember was that Raudi was in it. I remember that she was limping and I could not catch her. Such dreams have a feel about them, a feeling that lingers until one has another dream.

The horses didn’t seem to be bothered by the high winds. I took both dogs out – Shadow was oblivious, but Ryder made it known to me that she would’ve preferred to be inside. Nevertheless, I made her walk around the loop, a distance of one mile, with me. She’s a doddering dog. So I of course doddered with her. And I did wonder, what will it be like for me to be her age? I suspect that I’ll then dodder for real.

I didn’t have the energy to distribute so I didn’t do this. Should have. And there are these damnable surveys that I have yet to post on the bookcases.

It was much like yesterday in terms of the atmosphere in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. Two high schoolers assisted me in getting two boxes of books ready to go to Maine and four boxes of books ready to go to an Alaskan village. So off they will go on Monday.

A woman, from Ptarmigan Pediatrics showed up and took eight boxes of very good children’s books. She was determined to pick out her own boxes, which contained the books she wanted – there was no slowing her down.

And earlier, I had this Brillant, absolutely brilliant idea, which was to have Leslie, our volunteer coordinator, and her mother, who’s a volunteer, sort through the literacy materials that we’ve acquired over time. They agreed to this, and I think that they had a good time working together.

Then mom cleaned books and daughter worked on squaring away odds and ends. Okay. This is why I’m ashamed. There are a lot of odds and ends, piles of stuff that needed to be sorted out. I did the best I could, but the best wasn’t good enough. No, no, no.

After the people cleared out, I retreated to the back room and resumed sorting stuff out. I realized that, yes, I am getting somewhere. But admittedly, I’m tired of getting somewhere. I would in a manner of speaking like to be somewhere – to sit back and relax and watch competent people do their jobs. I honestly don’t think that I can keep going for very long at this pace.
