I then went for ride on Raudi. I left the place at 10:15 p.m. because I first attempted to find some worms for next Monday and Tuesday’s Summer in the Park(s) program. Pete said that the ground was still too cold, and so they would not yet have surfaced. Turns out he was right. I should have known. I could have saved myself some time by agreeing with him and going for a ride. Raudi was already saddled up.
But no, I took the pitch fork and I dug around, up behind the hoop house where several winter piles are now decomposing, and then in our compost piles. No worms. I panicked a bit, thinking that I will need them for Monday and Tuesday’s classes and what if I don’t find them?
Wel,l I decided the old adage make it until you break it is going to have to serve me in good stead. I will explain to the children that the ground is still real cold right now, and that for this reason, the worms in my yard have yet to surface. It’s all in the attitude, right?
Among other things, I’m going to also need to get some coffee grounds from somewhere. The plan is to show the students the ingredients and then mix them together. I will then explain that usually worms go into this mixture – that is when we have them on hand.
Just in case, I emailed Meredith, who is a member of the Valley Garden Club, and see if she can locate some of them.
Now it is after midnight and I am really tired. I have been tired all day anyways. This slows down my thinking. I am standing here at the computer again falling asleep, a common late night habit.
