April 24, 2026: And?

What do I write about now? This is a question that I now ask myself every evening. Used to be that I’d ask myself this question every morning. My world though, was turned upside down when I gave a name to the Bright Lights Book Project.

I am keep on keeping on, of course tangled up in blue.

Funny, how lines of songs trot along in my head. Pete, he has entire songs run through his head.

It was as we say around here, an uneventful day. We had a mid-morning meeting with the woman who is assisting us with our fundraising development plan. After, I distributed books, then returned to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle hotel and puttered some, focusing on the literacy annex.

Now I must put together a summer park curriculum. I will do this, but right now, of course, this seems doubtful to me. I need to come up with a theme and group the activities under it.

Ryder

Now, of course, I often wonder how we are going to fare – the BLBP has been embraced by community members. This, I thought today, as we worked on figuring out a plan (!) is going to be of little consequence because we are rock solid financially and will remain this way, given the assistance that we are now being given.

At some point, Pete and I will step back, and others will run the show. This is hard to imagine, but it is something that I must imagine. My horses are not getting any younger. And Pete said tonight that Ryder is almost at the point where she is going to need help getting up and down the stairs. Almost, he added, but not there yet.

So I want to spend time with her.

This morning, as I was heading out, I met our neighbor Karen who was standing at the corner of Murphy and Buffalo Mine Road with her dog. She is black, is, say, about 50 pounds, and had a crazed look in her eyes, which was accentuated by her tongue, which hung out of her mouth.

The dog was energetic. I mentioned this and Karen said that, “This is because of the Ausie” in her. I thought it later, that the problem is not that the dog has Ausie in it. Shadow is an Australian Shepherd and she is middle energy. So it is something else in this dog that is making it high energy.

Karen is also high energy, so they should be a good match. I think, though, that Karen would say she would like for this dog to be more mellow.

The horse pen is clean, but it is very wet and somewhat muddy. The rain is putting a damper on my riding. I hope that this rain is not a sign of things to come, but if it is, I will just grit my teeth and force myself to get out and ride.

Next: 113. 4/25/26: Sunny
