Now, of course, I often wonder how we are going to fare – the BLBP has been embraced by community members. This, I thought today, as we worked on figuring out a plan (!) is going to be of little consequence because we are rock solid financially and will remain this way, given the assistance that we are now being given.
At some point, Pete and I will step back, and others will run the show. This is hard to imagine, but it is something that I must imagine. My horses are not getting any younger. And Pete said tonight that Ryder is almost at the point where she is going to need help getting up and down the stairs. Almost, he added, but not there yet.
So I want to spend time with her.
This morning, as I was heading out, I met our neighbor Karen who was standing at the corner of Murphy and Buffalo Mine Road with her dog. She is black, is, say, about 50 pounds, and had a crazed look in her eyes, which was accentuated by her tongue, which hung out of her mouth.
The dog was energetic. I mentioned this and Karen said that, “This is because of the Ausie” in her. I thought it later, that the problem is not that the dog has Ausie in it. Shadow is an Australian Shepherd and she is middle energy. So it is something else in this dog that is making it high energy.
Karen is also high energy, so they should be a good match. I think, though, that Karen would say she would like for this dog to be more mellow.
The horse pen is clean, but it is very wet and somewhat muddy. The rain is putting a damper on my riding. I hope that this rain is not a sign of things to come, but if it is, I will just grit my teeth and force myself to get out and ride.
