Hurdles – I did the 110-yard low hurdles for a spring season when I was in high school. What I have since figured out is that this was the wrong event for me. I didn’t have the height and rather than take the obstacle in stride, I simply hopped over each one. Once I missed my mark and ended up picking gravel out of both knees for a great length of time. All that time, it was a waste of time. No one, much less the coach, cared.
These days hurdles are just an analogy, and I’m better off this way. Some jump hurdles and some jump through hoops. Me, I’m a hurdles kind of gal. Hoops – you can hit the tops of them. Then you say, what gives?
I was concerned about getting online for the Foraker Group Training session this morning. I feel better about such things when Pete’s around. If something then goes wrong, I yell, and he drops what he’s doing and gives me an assist.
I “attended” the 8:30 -12:30 a.m. Foraker Group meeting. The person who is in charge is a silly goose. We also had one-on-one sessions, and they were more useful. I liked the people that I chatted with. There is a difference between them and me, and this is that they are paid employees. They all must think that the Bright Lights Book Project is very rinky dink.
Now tomorrow there will be another lengthy session. I left my computer in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel, so I am going to have to go in early, and there attend the meeting. This is going to mean getting up even earlier than I did today.
It was a beautiful day – it pained me to leave the horses and head to town. My preference would, after today’s meeting, to stay here and ride. I felt like I had no choice. Books were coming in. I was right. The first drop off consisted of seven boxes and the second, about 30 boxes. The latter was a truckload, from an organization I call Recycling for No Reason. Now usually the boxes are full of crap, but I think that this time, someone sorted through the materials and left us the cleaner stuff. I spent the afternoon sorting through these boxes and categorizing the books, fiction, nonfiction, and children’s books.
Tonight, after work, there was a BLBP meeting. It was long and tedious. Pete was in Juneau; he participated online. I feared that his link would not work – but he connected to those of us in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. Always, after these meetings, there’s more work for me to do. This time was no exception.
The plan tomorrow is to go in early, go swimming, come home, and ride at least one horse. Can I get up early and get the chores done, and then get out of here? We shall see.
