Now if I were a scientist, or a medical doctor of some renown, I might be able to advance the above idea. But no, I’m just a writer turned book shlepper, and so no one is ever going to take the above idea seriously. But someday, someone else will. And I will say to no one in particular “I told you so.”
Today, Lawrence said to a woman who came in to check out the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel that, “Alys knows everybody.” I said, even before giving the matter thought, “No, everybody knows Alys.” I then realized that what I said was pretty close to the truth. A lot of people know me now as “the book lady.” I am the one who founded the BLBP and I’m the one who is keeping it going. It does seem to be getting more and more notice.
Last night, Pete said that we need to be persistent in contacting people. So we sent out three emails to PBS/APRN talking heads. And one, the advertising person for APRN, called this morning and we had a long chat. Now that I think of it, I think that she just had her morning coffee.
I love morning coffee because of how it energizes others. Me, I don’t need it. But it gets other’s wheels turning. The women who I spoke to was no exception. She made several good suggestions, one of which is to get people to take suitcases with our books to various destinations. Now I talked with Lawrence, our volunteer coordinator, and the wheels in his head started to turn. I thought, I have caught you at the just the right time – you have had your coffee.
So he is going to work on sending books to the Philippines where he has relatives. We’ll advertise this and talk it up, and see what becomes of this idea. I will start talking it up with anyone who walks in the door.
And this person also suggested that we go to the Loussac Library and see if we can get their end of their sale books.
There were other suggestions. I have them listed on a notecard.
Yes, I have heart, and I also have intestine.
