August 21, 2024: Rain is Okay Today

Heavy rain most of the day today. This was just fine, it made it easier to focus on indoor activities. Now it is 8:00 p.m. and it’s still raining. And it’s supposed to keep raining for the next ten days.

If I were handy, I’d build an ark. Now I might now have to (in a manner of speaking) set sail, but if the rain ceased, I could then live in it. I’d also use it to house additional animals.

As an aside, someone is going to put me in touch with the local guinea pig rescue organization. I am not sure how we can host an event for such small animals. You put a goat on a tether and kids pet it. But guinea pigs? I haven’t a clue. I suspect that I’m going to shinny up the learning curve on this one.

The day began, of course, with my dealing with irate goats and confused horses. The animals only know that water is coming from the sky and that it doesn’t feel very comfortable hanging out in it.

Next, I did a Zoom conference with two BLBP board members, who are both literacy experts. Beforehand, I came up with a written plan. Problem was, it was too broad in focus. We did narrow things down after a bit. The pair are going to assist me in coming up with a curriculum for one of the items on our proposed literacy plan, “parents read to kids.”

Deep down, where the daisies grow, with support and input, I can develop this and other literacy related items. The question is, do I want to do this? Right now, I’d be content to turn this over to someone else. I’d be most happy continuing salvaging, sorting, cleaning, and categorizing books. This is actually what I did today. But perhaps my feelings will change when I actually start to do this. Dunno. Could be a while. We also talked about funding prospects – I am the most logical prospect when it comes to hiring a literacy coordinator.

I want to be wearing my horse hat again. I took it off about a week ago and badly want to put it back on.

Hip is holding its own. It did not seize up today. Dr. Joe, the chiropractor, called and left a message. He apparently felt bad about the fact that he inadvertently caused me pain. So today I dropped a card off to his office, since neither of us have time for a lengthy phone conversation.

I have figured out that the hip is not going to seize up if I am standing up. It is no holds barred if I am sitting or bend over to straighten out books in a bookcase, as I did last Monday.

I am now working at the kitchen table. Pete is setting out dinner utensils and the like around me. We are having chili. My finishing this before dinner is ready is a race against time. Looks like I won the race. Dinner is now being served in the main dining car.
