August 20, 2024: Hunting Season Update

Bow hunting season ended here yesterday. Gun hunting season will start in five days. So we have a five-day lull between the two seasons.

Today would have been an excellent day to ride because of this lull and because of the excellent weather. I am being very cautious about what I do and how I do it, so the hip did not seize up today.

I am now getting others to do the mid- and heavy lifting. I think this is going to make a difference. I am thinking that because my condition is so intermittent, that the culprit is probably a piece of cartilage. Now why this didn’t show up in the X-Ray is admittedly baffling.

Today Pete went berry picking and I went to work. Yes, it’s hi ho, hi ho it’s off to work I go. I am tied down by my job, and don’t get paid for what I do. I suspect that I will never get paid for what I do. The BLBP board members don’t seem to see this as a priority. Actually, there are no priorities. Books come in and go out, and once in a while we get a grant. The thought of my getting paid is supposed to keep me motivated and it does, as well as the words (which I hear often) “Good project.”

I started my day by decorating the former Anchorage Daily News newspaper box. Last night Pete painted it. It is now a beehive that’s holding books. The bees that I drew look like they are on steroids, but no one will notice.

We moved this box and the one with the raven on it to their temporary homes late this evening and filled them both with books. One is now located in the agricultural arena, off to the side in the bee booth area, and the other is in front of Raven Hall. Pete and I also came across a box that we didn’t know about – it is located in front of the 4-H Building. I think that we now have eight newspaper boxes scattered throughout the Alaska State Fair fairgrounds.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays are off days, so we were able to get to the existent boxes by vehicle, which meant that we didn’t have to lug books to the various sites in the hand cart. I think it would be way cool to have a buckboard cart for Hrimmi, and to put books in it and deliver them in this fashion.

When we were on the fairgrounds, Pete and I saw a large drone up in the sky. I wondered who’d be flying such a thing. Turns out, moments later, we realized that it was owned and being operated by Logan, who used to be our videographer.

We had a nice conversation and he said that he’d stop by the hotel sometime and check out what we’re doing. I’ll believe it when I see it because Logan is a very busy guy. He and his wife Lindsey recently had a child, so the two double whammies are most likely going to keep a visit from happening.
