August 4, 2024: Time and Time Again

This morning, Pete and I went to town. I needed help moving books onto shelves and he needed to go shopping. I am getting the Learn to Read books taken care of. Some are going to villages, some are going onto the pack horse at the Alaska State Fair Parade, and some are going out into the bookcases. Going. A key word here. We have a lot of them, and we need the space for other things that we have a lot of.

So, as I was finishing up, Pete called his brother Pat who Pete thought would be coming in on plane tonight. Pete discovered he got the date wrong – Pat is coming in tomorrow night. Hearing this I breathed a sigh of relief because we supposedly had a lot to do here.

Supposedly. We didn’t do what we wrote down on our morning list. Instead, we lollygagged, so we have it all to do tomorrow.

No matter – it was the most beautiful day of the year – absolutely perfect weather. A great day for procrastinating, a great day for lollygagging. I do wonder who came up with that term – it has a nice ring to it.

We distributed books in town. We didn’t have enough books, so we had to go back to the former banquet room of the Eagle Hotel and get more. We then went to the Trunk Road Laundromat with the intention of getting books into the bookcase. This was the intention. Actually, I go out of my way to go there because the Country Store, which is adjacent to the laundromat, has ice cream. Good ice cream with large servings. I always order chocolate.

Home again, home again, ate lunch (greens from our garden) and then rode horses. I first got Hrimmi out, took her on our trails, and then Pete and I took Tyra and Raudi out. I didn’t think it was possible for the weather to get better, but it did. It was a little warm in the yard, but just cool enough in the woods to make the ride downright enjoyable.

My hip did not give me any problems.

The dogs also enjoyed themselves.

The horses had not been out in a few days, and so they really seem to enjoy themselves. Raudi lollygagged some, but it being such a nice day, I could easily forgive her. As their reward, all the horses got to spend the remaining part of the day in the yard, grazing.

Pete made quiche for dinner. As he was cooking, I worked on my People’s Paper article for August. Quick and dirty, knock it out – I had this brilliant idea, which was to make it a question/answer column.

I had to write this article well before deadline because Pete normally sends in the People’s Paper articles for me – but he might be out of town when the deadline rolls around. It’s the tenth.

My hip feels like it’s again seizing up. Hopefully, a good night’s sleep will keep it from getting worse. Fingers are crossed, making it difficult to type.
