May 8, 2024: Duly Noted

This morning, as I was cleaning the horse pen, I saw a robin hopping about. It seemed to me that it was a young robin. I have no way of knowing from year to year which robin is related to which robin. The same is true of the swallows. There would be more connectivity if I did know.

I’m now hearing several differing bird songs. I have no idea which song belongs to which bird. Now this is something I could do something about. I could listen to audio versions and then make the song connections.

I would like sometime to spend some time in the ornithology lab at Cornell University and take a few courses. I’ll bet that they have them online, but this is not the same as classroom courses. It would be interesting to see what courses are offered, and at what level. I’d like to take a course or two or three or four on migrating birds. I now know, there are migrating birds and resident birds. Here the resident birds are chickadees, magpies, ravens, and eagles.

I am a bird watcher, not a birder.

The green haze is here. Two days, and I can tell the difference. Overcast all day and now it’s raining. It’s a spring rain. It’s the winter/spring rain that’s hard on horses. They are all now just about shed. Hope that the birds have taken the horsehair and used this when nest building.

Early today, I visited my friend Cathy, and we matted more pictures. I was having an off day today. My attempts at matting pictures from children’s books was lackluster. This could have been because I was tired. We now have matted bird images.

It was a very busy day at the hotel. People were in and out all day. I had Pete retrieve some books from Milena’s U-Haul stash, so that the volunteers would have books to clean and stamp in the next few days. I planned on doing distributing. As it turned out, a lot of books came in today. Our friend Gene did what we in the trade call a purge, parting company with numerous books. He brought all the books in white plastic bags. I categorized them and put them in boxes.

And Robert picked up books at Title Wave today. There are now enough books for others to work with.

I did go to taekwondo late this afternoon. It’s beginning to make sense to me. I like the stretches. I like the routine. I hope that we can find Ron a nice place to conduct his business.

The students will be tested on Sunday. Not me. I am not at all ready to advance. It’s okay. I like how my legs are feeling. No more hip issues. My neck and upper back, this is a differing story, one in which I am going to have to tweak the narrative a bit.

Tomorrow we go to town to drop off books for shipment to a village. Way fun.

Next: 128. 5/9/24: Snow?
