August 8, 2023: Horses, Horses, Horses

Today I rode all three mares. It once again was brought to my attention that they are all very well behaved. And I was the first one to ride all three. I have for the most part been their main rider, with Pete also riding them all but not as often as I have.

If I was to go back in time, I would have done things a bit differently. I would have gone slower in introducing them to saddle. I also would have spent more time on flat terrain and when I rode them on hills, this would have been for short distances.

Three mares relaxing

I remember that Raudi was at first very pacey. My friend Brandi was the first to go out on the trails on her. Raudi dumped her, and she was sore for weeks. Now I realize that because she was so inexperienced, that Raudi had yet to find her balance with someone riding her.

Hrimmi (at first) had no spacial relations. My legs were banged against trees.

Tyra would go very fast, off trail, down hills.

Balance – yes, I would be more aware of balance issues should I go back in time with these horses.

I should maybe look to the future. If we got a place with more pasturage (and I put in track fencing) I would get a young Icelandic and train it. I can’t believe I just wrote that statement. But I would. I am, however, happy with the horses I have although I do miss Tinni something awful.

I am going to keep riding so that all three horses will be in good shape next year. In other words, I am wanting to do another long trek. B.C. would be a good place to go. Any further south and we’d have to deal with extreme heat and fire danger. Time now goes by fast so before I know it, it will be time to take off. We now have a contact, our friends who visited will point us in the direction of the right trails.

The book project is now set up so that others will be able to run it. I just need to find more others.

Sarah, who is on the board, said that we should call where we are Eagle’s Landing. She named it after the Eagle Hotel. I said it should be called Raven’s Landing since there are so many ravens around the place. Maybe the upstairs balcony area should be called Raven’s Roost.

The other day Pete and Robert were talking semi-seriously about the BLBP acquiring the building. Pete is right – we could generate an income from tenants, who might want rooms or office space. This way, we’d pay our monthly bill and not just be doling out money to the current hotel owner.

I agree. And we would not have to construct a building.
I say, dream big. Others do this, so why not us? Across the street, the former Car Quest building is being gutted and renovated. Now here is an instance in which someone else thought big.
