March 22, 2026: How much longer?

Is life as we know it going to exist on the face of this earth? We are slowly doing ourselves in. The majority of human beings do not have the capacity to think things through and have very little foresight. This is because breeding isn’t a selective process. Mate, procreate, and move on. And those having babies are oblivious to the fact that we all, being consumers, are THE problem.

I’m going to hop off my soapbox, even though it offers me a good view of what’s going on.

Tini, Hrimmi, and Signy pull hay from box

Back on tierra firma, I spent the morning working on the BLBP stuff, getting ready organizationally for the week ahead. Am thinking that because of rising gas prices, Pete and I are going to have to carpool.

And I’m going to talk with him about getting my mountain bike and BOB trailer going – and I will use it to distribute books. I did once apply for a grant for this – but I have the bicycle and could use it as an around town distribution bookmobile.

I often think of using the horses. I sometimes envision a town stable where a few of us might keep horses during the day. I say during the day because I’d want to take them home at night, which sort of defeats the purpose of having them in town. It costs money for gas to pull a horse trailer.

Ahh, today. I did get out and took all three for a walk around the loop. This was after I brushed them. In the first go around, I took Ryder (who when I dropped her leash went back up to the house), Shadow, and Tyra. Tyra had the best time of all three horses. She trotted and galloped off lead, but when I said whoa, she came back to me for a treat.

I next took Hrimfara out – she was slower than Tyra. What I should do is take them both out together. Maybe Pete will join me. I went and dropped off a 1952 skiing manual at our neighbor Judy’s house. I went under the carport, between the house and Judy’s car, and spoke with Judy for a minute. When I came out, Hrimmi was right where I’d left her.

And I took Raudi out. I think these horses know when the others get out and they do not. I think Raudi expected to be left in the enclosure. She too was glad to get out – I brought Shadow along – the two do like being in the company of other animals.

I had an idea when I got back. I took 3 large plastic feedbags that previously held treats and I put alfalfa cubes and hay pellets in them. I then gave one bag to each horse. They had a good time rummaging for treats. Hrimmi picked up and tossed her bag up in the air, and of course the treats fell out. Raudi pushed the bag around and got what she think she deserved. Tyra kept coming over to me and insisting that I give her what was in her bag.

Soon I hope the snow will melt and I can resume doing agility.
