February 26, 2026: Get ‘er Done

This line was phrased by Larry the Cable guy but has become my mantra. Some days, like today, I go from one task to the next, my internal list dictating what needs to be done and what can be put off until tomorrow. Sometimes I can’t put things off. So I burn the candle at both ends. Now there is not much candle left.

The day began with Pete and I getting up at 7:00 a.m. and heading to town where we met up with Dan, who works for the School District Warehouse and brings us books.

Today he dropped off five pallets of books; so far, all I’m seeing are children’s books, which is a very good thing. I was ecstatic because we had hit an all time low in terms of book numbers.

Pete and I ate breakfast at Turkey Red Restaurant, which has very good and nutritious food, and then we went our separate ways. He went to school and I went home to pick up the horse poop. This was something that I’d neglected to do before leaving. It was a wise decision in part because it had warmed up a bit. The temperature was in the negative numbers when I got up.

I hurried back to town in order to attend the Palmer Rotary meeting. There was a small group in attendance. There was some talk about funding in relation to the Palmer Public Library. I tried to get those in attendance to talk about the future of the book project, but to no avail. And it appears as though in the weeks to come, the presenters are going to be library-related.

I hurried off to the hotel before the hour was up – and noted that there were numerous BLBP volunteers, this including Pam, Amber, her two children Paloma and Javyn, Lydia, the Tamale Sisters, and in the afternoon, Cathy, our artist in residence. Then later in the afternoon, Alica and her two children came and helped clean and stamp books. That’s 11 volunteers.

It's not possible to stagger people. I do with what I have. I have accepted this as being the way it’s going to be.

I’m just glad that I had enough books on hand.

Cathy’s cork board, which will hold her art, work is now in place in the lobby.

I took off at 5:30 p.m. and attended Women who Care, this being a philanthropic organization. You get to speak if your name is pulled. My name wasn’t pulled. I am learning a lot listening to these presenters. First of all, funding for people will trump funding for animals. So the first group, which rescues strays, was out.

Next was a speaker from the Friends of the Palmer Public Library. I thought she was a shoe in because she made the right rhetorical moves. She really did cover her bases.

The third speaker was from an organization that funds trips for disadvantaged women – they go on a trip to Antelope, Oregon. I was surprised that she got the nod. It most likely was that her support people voted for her.

I came home – Pete had done the evening chores.

Now tomorrow is going to be another busy day. Being busy is keeping me from thinking about the extremely cold temperatures.
