February 8, 2026: Another Stupor Bowl Sunday

Couldn’t sleep in today. I woke up feeling overwhelmed by what I had to do and could not get back asleep. So I got up. Outside, overcast and warm. Inside, warm. All we are doing is getting through winter.

I made a list of things both Pete and I had to do right before breakfast. Then I shared it with him right after breakfast. I had him make a list, based on what I had written down. There is no way to do this. His being overwhelmed manifests itself as being grumpy. And it never fails; he gets up pretty quick and finds other things to do.

Then after writing these lists we got up and began knocking things off our lists. Me, I had a lot of little things to do, mainly answer emails, and I did this. I now don’t know what these things were.

Then, I took care of my tooth infection – I have been lackadaisical about this, but I am applying essential oils to the infected spot. Oil of Clove now for the next few days. It feels like it’s burning out the infection.

Then outside. It was snowing lightly. I rode Hrimmi and Pete rode Tyra. Raudi stayed put and ate hay. Pete contends that the horses are stepping in the tracks of the horses ahead of them and this is making for slower going. Shadow did consider turning back because she does not have tracks of her own.

It was a slog and Hrimmi got out of breath, but we did do our trails. After all, we do this every year on Stupor Bowl Sunday because no one is out, which makes the trails ours.

In the afternoon, went to town, my destination was the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. First ,we stopped at U-Haul and picked up duplicate books for the special needs students.

Then Pete went to the gym, and I did what needed to be done, small things that will make the upcoming week easier. For example, I got the thank you packets ready to go.

I distributed books then drove home in the rain/snow. I do not like to do this. I could have put off distributing books, but once again, as always, I reminded myself that books don’t get into the hands of appreciative readers if they’re on the shelves.

Okay. The Stupor Bowl. Sanctioned violence. The Seahawks beat the Patriots, and I can imagine that in Seattle everyone is celebrating. Me, I am glad that Bad Bunny, who is Puerto Rican, got to do his show and did not get killed. His performing was a statement, an important one, in that it was a nod to diversity. No, the king is not going to put this country in the gutter.

And as always, I checked out the advertisements. They were, as usual, so-so. I am always most interested in the Budweiser Clydesdale commercial – I think that those who make these commercials are running out of ideas. Pretty hokey this year, a Clydesdale rescues a baby eagle and raises it – it finally flies off. This to the sound of Freebird. No, hokey does not cut it.
