October 25, 2026: How to Deal?

I could not sleep last night. And this morning, when I finally did fall asleep, I had some semblance of a nightmare. It was a violent dream and it’s probably good I don’t remember any of it. A lot of dreams are like this. There may be a piece here or there, but generally one is just left with a feeling. And the feeling that I felt was anxiety.

I call it moon walking, what I’m doing, which is attempting to keep a project, for which there is no model, going. Today I was putting contact information (cards), in a leather-bound plastic case, and I saw that I had several contacts that I should have kept track of, but didn’t because I was distracted.

In my insomnia to-do-list, I came up with a schedule design for the whiteboard that we are going to put up. This is the sort of thing I spend too much time thinking about.
I thought I would get out riding, but I ended up putting together yet another email list for the newsletter. I also recorded what’s coming up in my planner. And I’m going back to using my old backpack because the one I’m using now has too many pockets.

I have once in while gone back and read my old diaries and thought it amazing that my world view way back then was so narrow. I eventually thought it was no longer narrow. But lately, I’ve been thinking that it has again narrowed. I don’t go very far, and right now traveling is definitely out.

Today I made it over to what is called the Butte. Pete and I again went to see our friends Gregory Nillson and Brit Lively. Our intent, which was realized, was to get Brit out for a walk. Gregory can’t go with her for walks because he has a bad back. So Pete and I, after hanging out, and me drinking hot chocolate and him chai tea, went for a walk with Brit.

We went over to see Linda and John Shu, who I previously had met many years ago. We three first spent time with John and with his and Linda’s puppy, Anna, a Jack Russell terrier. The dog, small, white with a wiry coat and two gray eye patches, was high energy. She was into everything, and in the time we were there she did not slow down. She walked off with both of Brit’s mis-matched shoes – Brit did know to go and find them.

The house was wood-fired warm, and there was a feel good/romantic western on the big screen in the living room. This made me think that many people spend their Sundays inside, staying warm, and watching videos. I grew uneasy thinking about this, for I equate this with wasting time.

Linda Shu finally came in – she had been tending to her seven ponies, one of which was a well-bred bay foal. It was a blast from my past, talking to her about people I used to know. This came after I asked if there was anyone out there who might work with me and Hrimmi on our driving. Alas, none of the horse people she mentioned qualified. Picky me.
