September 9, 2026: Yet another Dispatch

By the time anyone reads this, Pete will have posted it. He is way behind. This is indicative of just how busy he is. I honestly don’t know if he will post this. It does make me wonder why I am writing this because timeliness is of the essence.

I suspect that any readers I may have had have given up on reading these missives. However, I continue to write them because they are an ongoing record of a life lived.

I am leading a good life, the only problem being that my horsey/literary life is out of balance. There is actually no balance.

I recently came to the conclusion that the BLBP has been seen as my project and now seems to be seen as other’s project. And I need to make this happen by delegating as much of my tasks as I possibly can.

I figured this out during the fair. I gave other volunteers (I am in this number) tasks, and they arose to the occasion. And today I realized that I must continue this practice.

Yesterday, as I was moving books and whatnot from the fairgrounds to the hotel it was raining hard. It was not unpleasant. But it also was not pleasant. Today the sun was shining and it was warm. Pete lucked out. He consolidated newspaper boxes and got them all into a central area. On Friday he will put them back in their town-related places.

This was a huge venture. And most people remained unaware of the magnitude of the process of getting the boxes out there and back into their rightful places.

Tonight I drove to the Butte community council building and checked in on their newspaper box. It was visible from the road. It was a mess, with books below the shelf. These books no longer had a shelf life. Most were water damaged. The ones on the shelf were not stamped. And the spring on the box was still working.

I need to find a bookcase guardian for this box.

And in the meantime, I also stocked the chiropractor’s office, The Palmer Pool, and the Big Dipper Ice Cream shop. Tomorrow I will stock Bugge Park, the A-Moosement Park, the Iditawash Laundromat, and perhaps a few other places that right now escape me.

I attempted to straighten out the wayback room/literacy area but fell short of time. The Title Wave books came in and I, along with several volunteers, cleaned, stamped, and sorted them into categories.

The horses had yet another day off. The days are now getting shorter. My riding related window of opportunity is slowly closing. I repeat, I need a horsey buddy.

I am again considering getting a puppy – I found a listing on a message board in Turkey Red – it was posted today. Now this puppy, I will keep it with me, in the hotel, and have it be a shop dog. Yes, I am going to make a quantum leap and make the call tomorrow.

The title of this dispatch should be “Leaps and Bounds.”
