August 11, 2026: Deadlines

I observed that time really flies in the mornings. Pete observed that this is because of deadlines. I was reluctant about having my idea debunked, but he might be right.

I have noticed that I have plenty of time to get done what needs to be done. Then the time at which I am to leave materializes. Then after this moment, I am late. This is so very strange. You’d think that I’d have more time, either way.

This morning I moved more quickly than I did yesterday. Yesterday I dawdled. Huh. This is a word. I thought I made it up. When Pete and I carpooled, we generally got out of here at 11:00 a.m., to which one or the other of us will say, “Well now, off to our usual 11:00 a.m. start.”

I generally do not get going early, that is unless I have to. I generally work later.

There has been enough daylight so as to get an evening ride in, like I did today, but it’s going fast. The evenings have of late been the best time of day because the days have been hot. The temperature seems to drop at 7:00 p.m., when we eat dinner, and we get in a ride at 8:00 p.m.

It was for the most part an uneventful day. I packed up some boxes of books – I think that I am now up to 66 boxes of books. Am I going to make it to 100 boxes? I don’t think so. That’s okay. Pete will head to the Kenai Peninsula with what I have packed.

We had a BLBP board meeting tonight. It went just fine. I’m getting less apprehensive about being torn to shreds. Everyone seemed to enjoy being in one another’s company. Then after everyone left, and I did as I usually do, which is clean the place up.

During the meeting, a fellow who lives in a bottom floor hotel apartment stood outside the window, making faces at all of us. He one day called Pete Book Boy and Pete called him Dish Boy. Well, Dish Boy stood in the open door and made faces at me. He is a scary person, and I noted he’s even more scary when he began grimacing.

I decided to call the police because I didn’t know if it was safe for me to go out the side door. In the meantime, he’d gone around to the lobby door and was banging on the door. I looked up and saw Dish Boy give me the finger, up and then down. I did wonder what the down middle finger was all about.

The police came – they were in a hurry because they asked where Dish Boy was – I told them and they hurried off to find him. They did find him in the lobby – I told them that I was going home and so I left the hotel really fast.

I didn’t need for this to happen tonight. I left out an important fact. Dish Boy was drunk. I do not know if he will act as threatening if he is sober. I hope not.
