August 1, 2026: Here it is, August 1, 2026

Unreal, it’s August 1. There has to be a way of slowing down time, or at least adding more time to our busy lives. In the meantime, I am working at living for the moment because it then does not matter if I have ten days or ten years left. What is, is.

When I come in late, like today, I am more introspective and tired. It’s going to be a huge challenge, getting this dispatch done without falling asleep. I have at times dozed off some.

Pete went this morning to give an assist during the two-day competitive trail ride. I regretfully stayed put because I had things to do. And I went to the hotel and got them done.

It was another beautiful sunny day, with temperatures in the high 70s. I got out of the hotel as quick as I could, which was at 4 p.m. I was, even as I was driving, really wanting a nap. I came home and I laid down for five minutes. This got me through dinner and well into the evening. The best part about any nap is that it is a rest.

And yet I am not a big napper. I should be, but I’m not.

I’m now stuck at 215 words, which means that it’s imperative that I keep going. I’m so tired that my knees are buckling.

Pete is downstairs making bagels. He’s also washing the dishes. He made dinner. Good man, that Pete. This would be a good story, call it “Pete makes Bagels.”

It could be a continuation of Maurice Sendek’a work.

Today two of the Muskox interns came to the hotel and visited for a bit. This broke up the monotony of my being there.

A board member also showed up and spoke in glowing terms about her involvement in local politics, particularly Mary Peltoa. My sense is that, yes, this a planned thing, and a good planned thing because this board member’s putting her energy into what needs to be done.

There, my knees just went out from under me.

This is a race against time. I am falling off the edge of the pylon.

I am making less and less sense.

I can hear the rattling of utensils downstairs

Some kudos today – I was coming out of Lekker Bakery and an elderly woman who was sitting in her car thanked me for getting the project going and told me a story (which escapes me now) about her granddaughter and mother reading to a younger child.

It’s the complements that keep me going.

Tonight, after it cooled some, I took Hrimmi for a ride. Pete rode Tyra. It’s good to ride in the evenings because it’s cooler. Also, there are fewer people on the trails.

The low-lying light came through all the greenery. It was quite beautiful.

Hrimmi did a bit better on the eating, meaning that she was a little bit more attentive.

Fretting about Monday and wondering what the weather is going to be like. Hard to imagine on a sunny day like this, that it could rain, and rain hard.
