July 30, 2026: The Second Last Day of July

It was one of those warm, sunshiny near windless days, temperatures in the high seventies/low 80s. Everyone, including me, gets lulled into a false sense of complacency, thinking that it is going to stay this way. Even me.

It was a potentially bad day turned good – my goodness, things happened in which the outcome was questionable.

First of all, we met with our Foraker Group consultant, in an attempt to figure out how we might respond/what we might do in terms of our further communicating with funders.

Then it was time for me to go to work. It was our second Construction and Libraries day. It was a bust. Kora, Mike, and I hung out at Amoosement Park for a while and had a no show. So we moved on to Buggee Park and did our construction and libraries day dog and pony show for two older children, both of whom were very appreciative as was their mother.

Kora read Mike Mulligan’s Steam Shovel, and no kidding, I laid down in the soft, freshly mowed green grass and fell asleep. The next thing I knew, Kora was showing the students the items in Her boyfriend’s construction belt. I got up feeling just a bit energized. Then she had the children built structures out of Legos. After, we did a demo earthquake, shaping the tarp.

Two children were present. They were the offspring of a Kid’s Cupboard volunteer. We speculated that most of the Palmer residents had left town because the weather was nice. Where they might go remains a mystery to me. The ice cream store was also low on people leading me to say, what gives?

We all get back to the hotel and Skye, our ALP neighbor, was there

Mike is currently getting ready for his kindergarten courses. His last day with us is August 7.

I concluded my day feeling good with how it went.
