July 25, 2026: Hanging on to Summer

Summer has seemed awfully short this year. It was late. But at the same time, I spent too much time in June indoors, a very sunny month, to fully experience it. I now have my regrets.

Today, Pete told me that he’s going to be a P & R person in next week’s CTR ride. I encouraged him to do this. I just wish I was riding, but neither I nor my horses are in good enough shape for this particular endeavor.

This is not the end of the world. But it’s pretty dang close. I don’t like having regrets, so what I’m going to do is this: Summer in the Park(s) ends next Thursday. After, I have two weeks before the Alaska State Fair starts. I’ll get caught up on odds and ends stuff. I also am going to resume doing my body awareness work and exercising accordingly. And I’m going to ride more, so that next year I can do the competitive trail ride.

I’m in rough shape right now. There is something majorly wrong with my foot – it’s been feeling like someone has put a hot poker to it. And I have this loose front bridge in my mouth, and it is going to need to be fixed.

My gut is better, but I can easily make it worse. All I have to do is eat the wrong foods.

It was a beautiful sun shiny day today. I worked in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel for a while, and then a volunteer appeared and I hung out with her because I didn’t want her to feel lonely. I really just felt like hanging out by myself.

I really am now looking for ways of reducing my workload. If we find a co-worker, then this will be the first step in going in this direction.

The weather was so good that I called it quits at 5:30 p.m. and was home by 6 p.m. Pete got Tyra and Raudi ready, and we went for a late afternoon trail ride. Then after dinner, I took Hrimfara out for a trail ride.

Hrimmi did really well – there was a minimal amount of grazing going on, and she only pulled her head down to get at the grass once. Raudi knows how to grab food on the run, so this, at least in her mind, was not a problem.

Tomorrow is Sunday, and so I will get out for a longer ride. I do work on Saturdays but not so much on Sundays. That is, at the hotel. I work at home on Sunday’s.

My obsession with the rain has led me to believe that this too has been a summer consumer. If only I could think about the right things, like – philanthropy. I need a benefactor. I need a benefactor who will let the BLBP happen. I really do believe that this is going to happen although I do not dwell on it.
