July 12, 2026: My Turn

It’s my turn now, so I will elaborate on my take on the good life.

I had a good life sort of day today, if you want to call it that. I got some work done in the morning. I did simple projects, like write up the Alaska State Fair bookcase list, my executive director’s report, and the final schedule for Summer in the Park(s). I sent them on to Pete, and then then I relaxed for a bit before eating lunch.

This was indeed the good life because I was writing and I was in the zone. And I will have an avid audience for my work.

I next went outside – it was raining and cleaned the horse pen, which was fairly clean. As I was cleaning up, Alicia and McKenzie, who are interns at the muskox farm, pulled into the driveway in their Red, dented Toyota Rav4.

Alicia was here a few weeks ago. McKenize, just once. They came because they wanted to ride the horses. I was anxious about the visit beforehand because I feared that the horses would be guzzling grass the entire time

This is exactly what they did. McKenzie and Alicia did not mind at all. I got Pete, on Tyra, to accompany them. I walked behind just in case one of the horses decided to do something untoward, like bolt (pun intended) or stop for grass and cease to move on.

It was an okay walk. Our trails have a lot of tree roots, which is why the horses don’t go very fast. I tripped over them a lot and further hurt my already sore foot. (I nearly said hoof).

The riders all had a wonderful time. After we put the horses away, we invited them in for dinner. The lively conversation mainly centered around their respective jobs at the Palmer Muskox farm.

Pete made pasta with homemade sauce.

The interns left and I tended to the horses because it was getting late.

Yes, this day was very much reflective of the fact that I do live a good life. I just need to acknowledge this at 2 or 3 a.m. when I am in a panic.

It’s difficult because what I am thinking at this particular moment in time is my reality. Tomorrow I won’t have much time to think about any of the above.
