June 28, 2026: Rain

The monsoon season is here. Now tomorrow will be another day of Summer in the Par(s) – it will be our first day of heavy rain. We might cancel. We might do something in the hotel. We might forego going to Bugge Park and go to Amoosement Park. I say that if it’s raining hard, we should call it good and not do anything. We need to find a way of getting a hold of parents and children and letting them know where we are.

This morning I put together July’s Summer in the Par(s) curriculum. And I worked on the article that I’m co-authoring with Skye. And I made an outline of what we need to include in our next newsletter. The deadline is July 15.

I want July to go by really slowly. We are now in mid-summer – today when I was riding Raudi, I noted that the wild red roses and the wild purple geraniums are absolutely vibrant. The ferns are now mature and bright green. The robins are out, and because their eggs have now hatched, they are getting food for their offspring. We saw one on the woodshed roof – it had a worm dangling from its mouth.

A few grouse have popped up in front of the horses while out on the trail, a good sign. In a few days we’ll start seeing their babies.

Pete has been working on weeding the strawberries. He is three quarters done weeding the plants on the left side of the hoop house.

I was going to cut the raspberry canes in the raspberry patch this evening, but the rain was off putting. I wore my running shoes when I rode Raudi late this afternoon. This was because I think that my rubber boots are hurting my feet. My shoes got wet as did my socks. My cotton jeans also got wet.

It was for this reason that I actually got chilled.

Pete and I went to town this afternoon – he had to pick up eyedrops. I hung out in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel and did just a few things. The book areas, front and back, are looking really good. Pete returned and we put books in the Bugge Park Big Little Library and in the Big Dipper ice cream shop. Always, when I do this, I think that it’s better to have the books in bookcases than in the hotel. This way, they are more apt to get into the hands of appreciative readers.

I did try to figure out why I am having so many health issues. My plan is to grin and bear with it for another five weeks then get the problems, like my sore foot, taken care of. I can hang in there another five weeks, for sure.

I have been keeping an eye on the Big Bear eagle cam. Today one of the two young eagles toppled off a branch, onto a snag, then loosened itself and fell onto another snag. Then it broke free and flew away. It’s mate seems mystified. I suspect that not all exits are graceful.
