June 24, 2026: Go, go, go

The days are again getting shorter, but this won’t be overly evident for another month. July looms ahead. I can’t believe how fast the months are going by.

Beautiful spring weather – the clouds on the distant mountains reminds me of past trips in Wyoming and Colorado, where we actually rode over them. Some days we’d get going early and it would be cloudless. Then above tree line it would be overcast. Then on the far side, there would be thunderstorms.

And yes, I do miss travelling. I am trying hard not to think about the fact that Raudi’s trips, because of her age, are now limited. I just have to be patient because in all likelihood, others will step in and run the book project. I’d like to see this happen by this time next year.

Today was a good day; in fact, most days are good days as far as the book project goes. Summer in the Park(s) is thus far successful. Today, Mike, who is a teacher with many years of experience, donned his Cat in the Hat costume and did multiple lessons on hats. Fingers are crossed (sometimes I do hope) that the weather continues to hold and he is able to do the same at Amoosement Park.

The children are taking books. The parents are encouraging this. Some call Bugge Park the Free Lunch park. I call it the Free Range children park because children seem to appear without parents – it is also located in a very residential neighborhood.

We are working on a literacy program, which right now is taking the form of an outreach program. But in the fall, after the fair, it will be an in reach program.

Today, I heard from an Alaska Public Media journalist – the organization is wanting to do a story on us. We’ll get 2.5 minutes of air time, both in the form of a radio story and in the form of a video. And we can keep the video.

I talked with the fellow who sent me the email briefly about our program. I am to look at some of their past like episodes, which I will do in a minute.

Yes, we are now a known entity. The reason can be ascertained by example. During dinner, I noted that we were low on books for volunteers to clean, and without hesitating, Pete said that he’d go to U-Haul, and take the books to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. I of course went with him because I was not wanting him to do all the work.

It was a seamless road trip. We got the boxes and went to the hotel. I unpacked them and Pete vacuumed. I must say that by 9:00 p.m., when we left, the place looked and felt good.

Now tomorrow. It’s definitely going to be another groundhog day. Oh yes. Second run of Summer in the Park(s), and it’ll be the same old same old. And this I can live with.
