June 2, 2026: Magical

Today was it. In my mind, Spring is finally here. It was warm, and the air smelled clean and fresh. I think that I’ll smell the cottonwoods in the next few days.

Got really lucky with the Summer in the Park(s) project. The crew and I went to Amoosement Park, which is at the far end of Cobb Street – Bugge Park is at the other end. And we could, upon entering the parking lot, see lots of parents and children, in the playground, and in the area next to the playground.

This was in contrast to yesterday when we had just a few children show up at Bugge Park. I was worried, I thought oh oh, we got this project going and we have very low attendance.

But no, we ended up reading stories to twenty plus children and gave away an equal number plants, which they transplanted into containers, added dirt, and took home. In between, we did an exercise in which they stepped into hula hoops and pretended to be plants.

I honestly hope that I can maintain the momentum. Its 12 p.m. and I just finished putting fliers, bookmarks, and information sheets together. Now doing this I do not have a moment to spare. But this is just going to be for two months then there is the Alaska State Fair, and after, a very quiet month of September. But September is fall so I don’t want to be wishing for time to pass.

You have to be careful about such things – no matter what it is, you have to live for the moment, even if the moment is jam packed with stuff to do.

Pete and I, after a wonderful dinner, stir fry with tofu, went back to town and there found my missing computer. Now my cell phone is again missing. But at least I have my computer. It was a very odd feeling, not (momentarily) having a cell phone or a computer.

There was a time when I didn’t have either, and now I have both. Very strange; I wish we could all go back in time and resume print based correspondences. I don’t know when the last time I got a letter was. Actually, it was around the holidays, from my friend Jacki Welch. Of course I wrote her back, immediately.

But I have not, without prompting, written any letters to anyone else.

We returned with the computer, and I am typing up my dispatch for today. I would like for us all to again use typewriters.

After dinner, very late, after 9:00 p.m., we went for a ride, Pete riding Tyra and me riding Hrimmi. Again, Hrimmi did very well, perhaps she is coming to understand that riding horses are supposed to focus on the task at hand, which is move forward, this as opposed to lunging for grass. Perhaps, with horses, there is no such thing as certitude.

We all do the best we can, humans and beasts. This is something we should all keep in mind.
