May 14, 2026: Spring, Spring, Spring

Oh boy. The magical time of year is almost here, and when it comes, it will last three or so days. The buds are on the trees and soon, the green haze will appear.

I was outside this evening until 11:00 p.m. I am going to make this a habit.

Tonight, I pulled out agility equipment – mainly the jumps. I figure that if I don’t have much time, I can at least do agility. I will do some with Shadow – she seems to enjoy yard agility. I think, before, we asked too much of her at too young an age.

Shadow and Pete do agility

I realized, in pulling forth the equipment, just how focused I was in doing agility with both the dogs and the horses. If I could have anything in the whole wide world, it would be an agility friend.

Tonight I also cleaned out the track room. The squirrels went on a packer pellet binge and stashed a good number of them in odd places, like in a helmet, a horse boot, and the top part of a container.

I told Pete that we would have said raccoons did this, but we do not have raccoons in Alaska. FYI, we don’t have snakes or skunks, either. We do have porcupines. Pete found a porcupine foot, complete with claws, the other day. Shadow carried it home.

The question I have is, why do I have so little time to be on the home front? I am now a worker bee, but one who is not getting paid for what she’s doing. This does mystify me.

My day started by my getting a phone call from the gastrointestinal billing office. I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy scheduled for Monday, but I was told that the insurance would not cover the endoscopy. They instead wanted me to get on a prescribed drug – this would be an eight week trial. Pete called the insurance people – I can do a lot of administrative, but this seemed too difficult for me. He was told what I was told.

Interestingly, the drug that the G.I. doctor wants me to take is the same drug that we’re considering giving to Tyra. She’s in a bad way – water is now spilling out of her butt. Water is not spilling out of my butt, but I guess the drug will take care of what’s going on in the gut.

I was frustrated in getting this news. It’s a sign that as far as health care goes in this country, something is amiss. Insurance providers should cover exploratory exams, no question. And there is nothing I can do about it.

Work continues to be . . . work. I find it hard to believe that this project has become what it has become. And I don’t know what’s to become of it. I haven’t a clue. Ideally, I’d like to find people who are as invested as I am in this project, and willing to work as hard.
