April 1, 2025: Range and Domain

Another amazing, crazy day. Perhaps we get in life what we really want, not knowing that when we get it, that it will change things. You won’t be able to have your old life and your new life. The old and the new – it’s like two physical objects occupying the same space.

So there I was, participating in the Senior Reading group discussion when my friend Hilary began having knee pains. I went under the table and did some T-touches on her. She was freaking out because of the pain and because of the uncertainty about her workday.

A few minutes later she passed out. Someone then called 911 for an ambulance. The office was right across the hall. In strides the headperson, Beth, who took over. I backed off and took SOAP NOTES, which I passed on to the paramedics when they came in the door.

I then left. I learned from this that in times of duress you should not be afraid to act upon what you know, even if you think that you don’t know enough to take action. There is a logical procedure to follow in taking SOAP notes, this includes monitoring blood pressure and taking the pulse every few minutes.

I wrote down what exactly had happened, and the fact that Hilary’s blood pressure, at 114 over 70 was low. And I knew, that even though I hadn’t followed procedure, I did have some information on hand for the paramedic – and I felt really, really good about this.

And it was good that I went downstairs and let the medics do their job.

So a pat on the back even though I have short arms and can’t reach all that far.

I went swimming, then went to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. It was a routine day, with a lot of volunteers and people coming and going. As planned, I had, by late afternoon, enough books on hand to take to Buggee Park, where I filled the big little library. This, I thought, was a sign of spring. The children were playing in the playground – I heard one child say to another, “The zombies are going to eat you!”

Once at home, I sat down to eat dinner with Pete. Minutes later, the KNOM story was aired. This was on Alaska Public Radio Network. I got up close to the radio and listened. It sure is strange hearing one’s own voice. Holy Crap, I thought, we sure have been getting a lot of publicity. I also thought, this is my job, and I am doing it well. . .

I had just enough energy left at the day’s end to go for a horseback ride with Pete. It was a great ride excepting the fact that Pete, riding Tyra, and me, riding Raudi, left Hrimmi behind. We are just going to have to start ponying her.

The daylight, the warm weather, the sunshine even partial sunshine, all are boosting my spirits.
