February 13, 2025: Pete’s Home

He just walked in the door with two bags of groceries. One contained flowers and the other, chocolates.

Pete was in Juneau, doing union lobbying. He was not gone long, just four days, but it felt like an eternity. Our place cannot be run by just one person with other responsibilities. I decided prior to his leaving that I would put most of my time into working here. I did carve out time on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I got Raudi and Tyra out.

This was a bit of strategic planning on my part. Tuesday I stayed home in the morning and then went to town and did BLBP work. Then I came home. Going to town for an early morning meeting on Wednesday worked well because during breaks I was also able to do BLBP work. I was also able to go to the pool. And I was able to ride on both days. It did not work well because I had to get up at an insanely early hour.

Today, Thursday, I again went to town, and I again did work while attending the zoom meeting. These meetings, they were four hours long. I should have paid more attention, instead I zoned in on what was of interest and zoned out on what was not of interest.

I made some good connections, one with a woman named Autumn who is the town historian in Talkeetna. I think that everyone involved in this program was there to make connections. I am a different fish than the rest – I have volunteer status at the nonprofit that I started – the others are staff members of the nonprofits that others started.

After the meeting, I went to the pool, and I picked up books at Family Treasurers. I then dropped off Kid’s Kupboard lunches at Floyd’s place. I did not see him. I left the five paper bags with food on his porch. I hope that he enjoyed them. I am going to keep doing this.

I intended to ride Tyra, but by the time I got back it was getting late, so I just did general animal maintenance.

And then I came inside and began working on a letter for corporate donors. In writing this, I realized that these letters are going to have to be personalized. I never used to be in favor of social license – which is corporations providing funds to organizations in order to further promote their causes, some of which are admittedly questionable.
