Then, an idea came to me boom just like that. The working title was Summer in the Park, and it would involve doing reading and interactive activities in both Bugge Park and the Amoosement Park. I ran it by Pete who thought it was a good idea; then I had him put the template in my word document.
Writing up the grant was easy. I noticed that the PCC wanted matching funders. This was a no brainer. I sent emails to Jessie at the Mat-Su Health Foundation and to Hally at Kid’s Kupboard.
I now feel like Orville and Wilbur felt right before they took off on their first flight at Kitty Hawk, as in this is going to fly.
I have books for the reading portion of the program, and we can get interactive supplies, like hula hoops and frisbees. I might also be able to host a children read to dogs day. The two parks will be large enough.
This will further instill in the minds of parents that we are a literacy based program. I’m really glad now that I set aside books that will complement this venture.
The trick is to keep this ball, along with the other balls, up in the air. One of the other balls is the Books to Kenya program, and another one is the Books to Schools program.
We are looking at getting additional funding for the project and so it continues to hop along like the thousand legged worm.
This was my second ideas day in the evening.
All day, the wind continued to blow. I am glad that I had my Refrigirware suit this morning. I wasn’t cold although it was cold.
I did work some on Shelf Life. I have been doing a lot of copy editing and some revision. This is very arduous. I am going to have to force myself to continue with this.
I went into town briefly and talked with Lawrence, the BLBP Volunteer Coordinator, about the upcoming week. Our discussion was brief. He was more interested in talking about the windstorm. The wind knocked down two of his fences, and so he is unable to let his four dogs out into the lawn.
The wind continues to blow. It was supposed to come to a standstill at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, but now the weather forecasters are saying that it will not abate until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow morning. I’m ready for this to be over with.
