December 1, 2025: The To-Do List grows Longer Instead of Shorter

Yesterday, Pete and I sat down and made several to-do lists. No, we did not make just one list, but rather four lists, so as to talk with funders, our volunteer coordinator, and a possible project partner. I wrote our mutual ideas down in my math notebook, and we have since been typing them up.

This has made me realize just how big our little project has gotten to be. We have the books in the community, books in the villages, books in the schools, and books at the Alaska State Fair program. I spend my time bouncing back and forth between what’s required in each category.

Sometimes I get frustrated because I see other organizations, like the Palmer Arts Council, doing more event related things than we are doing, and wonder why we can’t also do them.

I am so busy with all this that I don’t have a life. Today, I did get Tyra out for a walk. I also took Shadow. These are animals that love to be out, and I’m doing them a disservice. I think of this every time that I head on down the driveway in my bookmobile.

Pete and I have talked about throwing the book-related towel, but we can’t seem to do it.

Today a Headstart coordinator came in and picked up three boxes of books that I’d set aside for their organization. Stephanie was really appreciative. This sort of thing is like having the wind at my back when running up a hill. I then stop grousing and continue to do what I do so well.

Pete is tenacious. He’s also Taurus the Bull. He never gives up. Ever. This morning he attended a fundraising Zoom conference and this evening he worked on partnership talking points.

Me, I am going to work on a grants plan, one in which we’ll apply for funding for our various programs. Pete mentioned this to me, and I saw the logic of it. Funders want specifics, and we, in focusing on categories, will provide this to them.

We are both very good in terms of time management. For instance, I realized last night that I needed to have my notes written up for my meeting today with our volunteer coordinator. I was tired, but I realized that I needed to get this done at 11:00 p.m.; otherwise I would not get it done at all. I did this, in part, because, yes, I did want to take a horse for a walk.

I am always thinking ahead and tomorrow is no exception. I left my car next to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel, and so tomorrow I’m going into town with Pete. I have some town things to do, and may even get a swim in. I will work with volunteers who will be cleaning books in the afternoon.

Wednesday, maybe I will get a ride in. Still, no major snowfalls here, yet. Our not having to deal with snow is making the winter go by faster.
