October 31, 2025: Hall-O-Ween

A memorable Hall-O-Ween, I wonder what of it I will remember and what of it that I will forget. The weather, I want to remember what it was like – a bit chilly, a bit breezy, with a minimal amount of snow on the ground. Some sun. Not as cold as last year or other years.

The day went by fast. We got up late (at 9:00 a.m.), which made it seem shorter. Just hard to climb out of a warm bed with another warm body – I guess this is just human nature.

I went out to clean the horse pen – there was far more poop out there than usual because I must not have gotten all of it last night. There was probably some I did not see both because it was dark and because it was covered with snow when I picked it up.

I was in a hurry picking up the poop because I had an 11:00 a.m. Zoom meeting with Tyan, who is with the Foraker Group. I contacted her because I needed advice about what to do about a potential BLBP board related problem. She did provide me with a much-needed assist, and so I can move forward with my thinking.

And then after, I headed out the door to the hotel in order to be there in time to meet with volunteers – two volunteers who were a no show, but three other volunteers who were most helpful – Amber, Jayvyd, and Pomona. They gave me an assist all afternoon in preparing for tonight’s Hall-O-Ween event at the college. Then they were there tonight, giving an assist.

I am very fond of Jayvyd, age 7 – he is now reading dinosaur books – and is actually a very intelligent child. Very exciting, to be a friend and work with a young fellow like this.

The event – last year we occupied the bridge, a long stretch adjoining the two campus buildings. This year we were right in the front area. I had lobbied for our setting up on the bridge again, but Pete said that our being in the front area was perfect. I realized as we were setting up that I had to change my mindset and be more flexible in my thinking. The front area, as it turned out, was not a bad place to be, rather it was just different.

We had a prime spot, and we talked to a lot of people and passed out many books. I did not have an interactive activity planned – I should have, but honestly, I am tired – I have orchestrated events for the past five weekends.

And most parents/children did take books. The rest Pete will give to Matthew, who is his colleague and one of our distributors.

It got pretty lively at one point – Sharon who teaches dance encouraged us all who were hanging out to dance. The high point of the evening was when two, two year old identical twins stepped out and began dancing. They were tethered together by a coiled line – they had no problem with it, or putting on a show.

Just a good time this evening, all the way around.
