October 26, 2025: Expectations

This morning I woke up knowing that I had a lot to do. Never mind it was Sunday, a day of rest. I ,of course, immediately felt overwhelmed as I, lying in bed, worked on my to do list. I got up and began getting dressed – the first thing on my list was tend to the horses.

My anxiety level was pretty high as I headed out the door because, once again, Tyra has watery poop. But I felt less overwhelmed when I saw her, along with the other two, all looking at me expectantly, after all the sun was up and it was past time for breakfast. This is because it is dark later, so I feed later. They would, of course, prefer that I feed them at 4:00 a.m.

I finished feeding and cleaning up then slowly headed back up the cabin because I knew that our breakfast conversation would center around what we would each be doing today, and as importantly, the order in which we did the items on our respective lists.

This is how it shook down – I would first clean Tyra’s butt and give them all supplements, then we’d go to U-Haul and to the hotel. Pete would leave me at the hotel and go to Zach’s and pick up the fecal collection containers. I would put away the art books and art illustrations and put out the books to be cleaned.

This is sort of what we did. At U-Haul we pulled up next to a woman who had a head of hair that resembled a rusty Brillo pad. She was standing next to a cart – the back of her car had numerous things in it. As I was packing up our boxes Pete struck up a conversation with Patricia, who had a South American accent. It turned out she was from Chili. She could not hold a thought, nor could she pack up her car. We gave her an assist, and Pete invited her to check out the former banquet room of the Eagle Hotel.

I felt conflicted about this because this woman seemed a few bubbles off plumb, but Pete was so agreeable that I followed his lead. She gave us a small cardboard box before we parted company. Turns out, it contained rare comic books. Nice lady.

I had a lot to do and had it almost done by the time Pete got back. He gave me an assist putting books away.

We went home, ate lunch, then I finished stacking the wood in the woodshed, moving the seasoned wood to the far side of the shed, then unloaded the rear of the pickup, which contained wood that Pete got yesterday.

I then went down to clean up after and feed the horses. Pete appeared, having finished cutting up the wood, which was once two standing trees, and said he’d go for a ride with me.

Pete rode Tyra and I rode Raudi. We didn’t have much daylight left in which to ride, so we came home on Raudi’s runway rather than on Siggi’s loop. No matter, a ride is a ride is a ride.

This evening we finished entering volunteer information on the computer spread sheets. This was a huge accomplishment because our going digital is going to make my job a whole lot easier.

So I will soon be going to bed knowing that I did most of what I needed to get done and thought I would not get done, when I woke up.
