October 25, 2025: Eventful Life

I am again anxious because Tyra has very runny poop. She’s getting very expensive grass hay, but she has the squirts really bad. Pete suggested, and he was right, that we put her back on probiotics. We’ll also have another fecal exam done on all the horses because last night, as Calli, a new in town veterinarian, said, they might all have parasites. And Tyra might be reinfected. So yeah, this was on my mind all day.

Pete talked to Zach, our veterinarian, who will send in the fecal sample. And he has agreed to make sure the horses get their supplements although of course I will do this. What a gem.

My workday began with my going to the MTA sports arena, because Kathryn, who is the bookcase guardian there, invited me to come and watch the game. She hung out upstairs, and I joined her. The children eight and under were playing.

It was impressive, watching them. They were all agile, quick on their feet. There were four teams playing – two on one half of the arena and two on the other half of the arena. The goalie on one team, he wasn’t as attentive as he should have been – he did not stop many shots.

I found myself wanting to be a hockey announcer – it seems like this would be far easier than being a horse racetrack announcer. You simply follow the puck and note who does or does not have it.

Women are not generally announcers. I have always wondered why this is. At least the young players were both male and female. You would not have seen this ten years ago.

Today, another event. The Palmer Arts Council Art Walk. I was lucky in that Melissa and Lexi, the two high schoolers, came in and gave me an assist setting up. I stayed one step ahead of the pair, which is a great deal of work in itself. In such instances I always have to be thinking, what am I going to have them do next?

They organized art books, sorted out Halloween books, and set out the cards Cathy and I made. They prefer to work with one another, and they really don’t have much to say to me. They see me as old, and so there is an age-related barrier there. But they seem to enjoy the work – today they had a very good time looking through the art books that they were setting out.

Pete showed up as they were getting ready to leave – he rehung the banners, put on jazz music, and after going to the store, set out wine and cheese. What a gem he is.

I do get all the credit for this project, but the workload is 50/50. And he’s the one who keeps it all going when I start to grouse and talk about giving this all up. Plus, he is good with the administrative end of things.

I distributed books and picked up a half a carload of books from the Family Treasurers Thrift Store.

I just wish I could find an umbrella organization that would purchase the Eagle Hotel.
