October 15, 2025: Nothing left to Say

Well then, I shall do as Donald Murray says and write for surprise. This is when the best ideas surface.

Today, overcast, warm, and windy. I drove to Sutton, distributed fliers, dropped books off at the Sutton Elementary School, and high graded books from the Sutton Library.

The Sutton Library was a busy place, with children all over the place. They have a beautiful, easily accessible children’s library. Now what is it going to take for us to get such a set up? I do wonder.

Went to town, picked up more books at Family Treasurers and still more at the Palmer Visitor Center. Everyone that I talked to was excited and/or interested in Saturday’s dog event. We’ll see how it goes. I suspect that we’ll be short on dogs and long on children. Well, I will have the parents sign up for another go-round.

From there I went to the Palmer Pool and joined my friend Cathy the Artist in Residence in the hot tub. I stayed a few minutes long because I didn’t feel well after. Whatever it was that was making me feel low passed – I felt better once I stepped outside into the brisk wind.

On to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. There were a lot of volunteers today – all hard working and all good natured. The discussion was mainly about the sorry state of the world and Saturday’s protest. I remarked to Pete tonight that I hope that there are no drive by shootings. This does seem within the realm of possibility, so I will stay put in Palmer.

Pete came when the volunteers left and brought in two boxes of children’s books and four bags of adult fiction from Title Wave. This was not a large haul, but it added to our stash. One of the bags of fiction was bodice rippers. I discarded them.

I worked in the literacy annex until 5:30 p.m. We then had our monthly BLBP meeting. We had two more new board members present. Both Caitlyn and John seem like nice people. I was sorry that they had to listen to our meeting minutia – for example, there was considerable discussion as to whether or not an inner door should be constructed between our work area and that of the Anchorage Literacy Program.

The meeting was going slow, so I kept my thoughts to myself. I began picturing myself going back and forth with Big Red, the cart, and having to open the door and then of course realized that my answer was a resounding no.

I took a ride home with Pete. Now tomorrow we are going in early so as to meet the organization (Name not to be disclosed) who will be dropping off four boxes of lower and upper elementary books. Then I will come home and finish tending to the animals. Then I will go back to Palmer and get on with my day. But first, a good night’s sleep.
