January 27, 2025: A Day at Home

Glad to be home, so glad that I stayed put and did not venture very far from the house. Last night I made sure that all the books were in their places in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. And today I took care of administrative loose ends. I sent a lot of emails, and I wrote up the response to a remaining question for the Foraker Group training application.

I also began working on BLBP board descriptions, but Pete told me to hand this task onto a BLBP board member who will go unnamed. He also suggested that she come up with a press packet for donors.

I called a few places in Nome, in hopes of getting them on book list. A very kindly librarian gave me a lot of good advice – I didn’t tell her that I’d already checked out the places she mentioned. Time is right now on my side, since I won’t be going anywhere until late March.

Outside, blizzard conditions, though as I thought, it was just an extended squall. The horse enclosure pit is not draining, so we now have a small pond inside the fencing. Pete was going to take the tractor and attempt to find the pipe from which the water is supposed to flow, but he could not find it, he had too many other things to do. Most were project related.

I did go outside and clean the horse pen and feed them. The mares are disgruntled. Now there is nothing that I can do to make their lives better. If they had their druthers, they’d be in a heated barn, knee high in straw, with plenty of fresh hay. The barn would be attached to a heated arena, and on my part, they’d get ridden in inclement weather. This is the horse and owner combined vision.

I also have the BLBP vision, still. I see our purchasing the Eagle Hotel as being a very feasible option. What has to happen is that we let go of the idea of our owning a hotel and begin thinking of us as being the owners of a literacy center. I may have Pete walk around with me, and together, we can begin talking about how the existent space fits with our vision.

See, I have two visions here, which I guess is double vision. In order to have triple vision, I’d need to have a third eye. I wonder if anyone has ever been born with a third eye. . .

Next: 28. 1/28/25: We take you back. . .
