October 5, 2025: Partial Loser

I sort of redeemed myself today. I found the cellphone, under a pile of papers and whatnot, on my standing desk/bookcase. A relief. Now I need to find my keys. I am using an extra set or as it is called, FOB (I don’t know what FOB) stands for – it lacks my mailbox key, but this is not a big deal.

Each time I lose and then find the cellphone, I vow to never lose it again. My most amazing loss occurred during last year’s trail trials. I left it on the side of an incline at Mat lakes parking lot. A day later, after the event, Pete drove me back to the place I’d left it, and it was still there. It was supposed to rain, but it had not.

I do not like cellphones, and I wish we’d all dismantle them and use the parts to make the world a better place. The problem is that people are very dependent upon them and now can’t see being without one on hand.

The keys, well you need them to start a car. I have a little bit of leeway – keys no longer have to be in the ignition; rather, they can be on your person or in the car someplace. As I said yesterday, my keys are in the house – somewhere.

I’m not going to obsess about this. I’m just going to focus on being relieved about finding my cell phone.

It was a productive day – not everything got done, but I did write down what I will need to get done in the next few days.

I sent out some emails and then wrote my People’s Paper/Make a Scene article. It is entitled “Fair Enough,” and it is about immediately after the Alaska State Fair. I thought about this article for some time since I am going to revise it, and the two fair articles that preceded it, for Shelf Life.

I thought I’d write more about all that I did that was fair related well after the fair. Instead, I wrote about the next day. And I wrote about the last walkabout, which was the day after the fair. I had planned to go back to the fairgrounds and walk around some, but I have not had the time to do this.

I’m amazed with all I had to do that I found the time to even write an article. It is an example (I guess) of getting done what needs to get done, when it needs to get done.

I also moved wood from one side of the woodshed to the other, got three quarters of it relocated. I could not do it all, but I may end up doing a bit at a time. We’ll get uncured wood for the other side.

Next, I went to town and first stopped at U-Haul where I picked up some of the squares, compressed blocks of wood that no one has any ideas as to what to do with. I tossed them in the dumpster that’s at the rear of the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. When there, I picked up books for immediate distribution; at Sherrod Elementary School (they have a newspaper box), and at the Big Dipper Ice Cream parlor they have a bookcase.

Tomorrow I will take books and distribute them at the Sutton Elementary School.

I’m wordy tonight. Will wonders ever cease.
