August 9, 2025: Good timing

I have a lot to do but not so much that I can’t, if I want, get what I think needs to be done, done. This is a very honest appraisal. I want to be less honest because being less honest is less stressful.

I did not have to go into the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel before noon today. I could have. Instead I stayed home, and Pete went there. I first worked on Shelf Life – the senior center chapter. I have one more part to do, the part in which I write about the problems that arose after Covid hit, mainly, the powers that be cutting out the lunches that come with the center membership.

There are now other seemingly irresolvable issues that may lead to the closure of the facility. This would be a huge loss because the PCS has, for some time been a gathering place for those over 65. Rumor has it that the Palmer City administrators might take on and move into the building. Now if this happens, I will write about this in my epilogue.

My epilogue could end up being as long as my book.

Now the fair is happening – the saga continues. Going to have to write about it.

I must now write one more little section, then find a place in which to write about the books to the villages program. Then I am done.

Today I repacked the boxes that are going to the Alaska State Fair Colony barn. It was quite a feat, matching books up with fair day themes. But I did it. And I feel pretty good about this.

And in addition, I have been keeping up with the regular workload. In the past few days approximately forty boxes of books came in. Susan, volunteer extraordinaire, brought in the first batch. Then this morning, Pete went and retrieved books from a long-time volunteer. Additionally, the two sisters whose mother died in January let it be known that she had some additional boxes of books and a bookcase. I sent Pete to their place, and he came back with them.

It was a lot to do, all this front and back room activity. Oh, I forgot to mention – I got all the boxes of books ready to take to fairgrounds. Pete picked up the newspaper boxes and took some books. The rest are now in the back of the Kid’s Kupboard box truck. They’ll be unloaded at the ASF Grounds on Monday or Tuesday.

Now tomorrow, I am going to paint the newspaper box that right now is bright yellow – again, and this is my third go-around, so that it resembles a beehive.

I often am asked, how do you do all you do? The answer is, sadly, that I bypass doing mundane stuff. Someone has to do these things, and this someone, sad to say, is Pete. He does deserve better in a mate. Maybe he will find someone else this year, at the Alaska State Fair. . .
