July 8, 2025: Forward Ho

A forward ho is one who does her own solicitations. I can’t go any further with this line of thought.

Weather variable, very sunny as I went about my day.

I got my writing time in. I am now writing about partnerships and having a hard time of it. It’s too broad a topic. So tomorrow I might instead write an ending to this book. The ending is going to be that every time I turn around there is more about the project to write about.

The most important thing is that no matter what, I get my hour in and give this book my full and undivided attention. As soon as I reach 300 pages (I’m now at 283) I’m going to have Pete print up a copy and start to make revisionary changes on my print copy.

Pete and I gave a talk at the Palmer Kiwanis Club meeting. Most of the service organizations are named after animal. I gave up on attempting to picture what a Kiwanis looked like – I figured it looks like a koala bear and is black. I ended up looking up the word – I discovered that the name "Kiwanis" originated from the Native American phrase "Nunc Kee-wanis," which is believed to mean "we trade" or "we share our talents.” This phrase was used by the Detroit-area Ojibwe people. The founders of Kiwanis International, established in Detroit in 1915, adopted this phrase as the name for their organization.

I think that their mascot should be a little black bear.

Pete had put together a power point presentation, which I referred to as I talked. I tried to remain upbeat and enthusiastic, but I noticed that as I was talking that some of the very old members were falling asleep.

Now I would have gone to the Lion’s Club meeting, but there is a time conflict, which is very strange. You would think that one group or the other would change their meeting time.

So there we were, talking about what it is that we do, and I think we were well received. We did not get any takers when we asked for funds. Makes me wonder how one does this in a presentation.

I hopped right to it after this presentation. I went to the Palmer Pool, stocked the bookcase shelves, then went swimming. It was a very brief swim and once in the water, I wished that it was longer. However, I did get in plenty of hot tub time, once in the beginning and once at the end. I sure wish I had a hot tub here. Problem is, I’d turn into a prune.

I next went and did my distributing. I went to Iditawash, the Amoosement Park, the Borough Building, the DMV, the Bleeding Heart Brewery, the Lekker Bakery, and Kombucha before going to the Family Treasurers thrift shop. I was then out of books, so I returned to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel and got more books. Round two consisted of drop offs at Bugge Park, the Mat Su River Park, and the Big Dipper Ice cream shop.

As they say, it’s all in a day’s work.
