July 2, 2025: Slowing Down Time

The only time that time seems to move slowly for me is when I’m bored. Boredom is excruciating. There’s short- and long-term boredom. I have experienced short term boredom in supermarket and post office lines. There I have nothing to do except in the former by checking in in a line with magazines and reading for a few minutes or in the latter by looking at greeting cards.

Long-term boredom – I have seldom experienced this. The last time was over 10 years ago when we had time to kill at Taylor Park in Colorado. We had to wait three days for the farrier to show up. I had one copy of the New Yorker Magazine, and I read it cover to cover. I didn’t then have anything else to read.

I should add that I sometimes get bored waiting to board planes at airports. This is at the times in which I inadvertently forgot to bring my book. Having a book handy. Reading, it’s key. I also have been known to straighten out the Read on the Fly Bookcase before boarding.

I can’t do much on the plane because I get so nervous. But having to sit still, and feeling every bump, yep boredom is the end result.

I was not bored today. It was perhaps the nicest day of the year, what with temperatures in the 70s and the sun shining brightly.

I got my hour of writing in. I’m now writing about my decision to resume writing again. I think that the preceding chapters, which are about my identity as a BLBP board member and executive director, lead into the chapter on resuming writing rather nicely.

Little things that I should include just keep coming back to mind; for example, I want to include information on the history of the historic Eagle Hotel in my book. I think that the historical society will provide me with this information.

Pete and I decided mid-morning to go for a ride. I thought this was a good idea given that I keep thinking that I’ll have time to ride in the evenings but seldom do.

It was a wonderful ride. The terrain was not gloppy and not worn. Tyra and Raudi moved along nicely, and I think they were glad to be on an outing. They were also very sure footed and dealt with the innumerable ruts just fine.

We finished the ride, and I took off for town. I distributed books at numerous sources and then headed to the hotel where I started unpacking nine boxes of books from Title Wave. I didn’t get very far because I had to go and give Katy, Sally Hitchcock’s daughter an assist with home cleaning. She had a lot of books still. They are now in my car. I’ll wait until I finish taking care of the Title Wave books before I tackle these books.

Tonight I did a road ride with Hrimmi. A good decision for now to stay off the grass. I think she eats because she gets nervous. I am working at making her less nervous.
