June 28, 2025: Another Idea

We act on ideas that others think are good, do-able, or will benefit someone, somewhere. If an idea is shitcanned, then it is shitcanned. It’s hard to act on an idea that is met with little or no enthusiasm.

I was thinking this today as I pulled into the parking lot of the Sutton Library. I was there for the dedication of the Nancy Bartels Story Walk. Nancy was the Sutton librarian for 25 years and finally retired. Seemed fitting for her to have a story walk named after her.

I was there for the dedication. But at the same time, I wanted to see if I could better familiarize some of the crowd with the BLBP newspaper box, which is in an out of the way place, under an awning on the Park’s Geist House.

I showed it to Nancy Dryden, who appeared after the dedication and ribbon cutting. We talked for some time and then I showed her the newspaper box.

As we were talking, I had an idea. The story walk is a series of images mounted on metal, covered with plastic, this on a post. This particular series of 15 images were of the Alaska State Train – the train had animals on it – it resembled the AK State Fair gardener Becky Myrold’s landscape theme from last year, the theme of which was Enjoy the Ride.

This year’s theme is going to be Reach for the Stars. Becky again got the design spot.

My idea is to move the story walk story to the Colony Barn after it’s been there a while. I will also get a photo from Becky and along with the rest, mount it. I talked a bit with the artist, Brooke, and I got the sense that she’d be up for doing a reading. This would be during the fair.

I am starting work on this project now because time is going by fast, really fast. It’ll be July in just a few days. What gives? I wonder if I did less if time would slow down. Maybe I should just sit down, stare out of a window, and see. The problem is that I would get very bored, very quickly.

Goodness. I am so tired that I just fell asleep and did a startle response, much like that of a horse. Well, I am wide awake now.

The writing didn’t go as well as I’d liked for it to have this morning. I did what I usually do -- a lot of revisionary work prior to writing out new material by hand. The trick is to keep going and not get stuck. This way is the most efficient for me.

And maybe, just maybe, I will get a good night’s sleep tonight. I didn’t feel very awake when I was working this morning.

Went riding this evening. Raudi is getting in good shape. She cantered a great deal. Tomorrow, if no rain, I might take her up the bench, this in preparation for a more lengthy ride.
