June 10, 2025: Summer

It seems to me as if it’s late spring. No, it’s summer. There are now plenty of robins around, but no sparrows this year. The leaves on the trees are dark green. It’s uncharacteristically cold here. I’d rather have it be cold than hot. There’s no escaping heat. If you are cold, and we often are, you can go inside and fire up the wood stove. If you are hot, there’s no place to go. Well, if you have a car with air conditioning, you can drive around until you run out of gas. Or you can go to a movie theatre and watch a double feature.

I wonder if they still have double features. I have not been to a movie theatre in years. I have not watched a movie in a long time.

I have tried four times to write this sentence and fallen asleep each time.

I don’t remember the events of the day. I don’t recall anything about this morning. Wait. I had quinoa for breakfast; and after, I worked on Shelf Life for an hour. It wasn’t the most productive hour ever – I got stuck on writing a paragraph that I might never use.

Some neighbors dropped their dog off for us to watch for a week. Xeonon or whatever her name is, is a good dog. All dogs with fruit bat ears are good dogs. At one point, Swampy was focused on this dog. They are both big and black and have big ears.

I then went to town. I stocked the bakery bookshelf and the pool bookshelf before heading to the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel.

Once at the hotel, I did what’s become routine – cleaned nonfiction books. Someone donated what must have been a library of watch repair and clock books. Problem was, they are moldy. Nice books. I don’t know what I’m going to do with them.

I just sat down and a half dozen times fell asleep. So I’m standing again. Frustrating. Tonight, I am most definitely not in the zone. I wonder if it’s possible to tell zone from non-zone writing.

I did a second distribution and parted company with most of the books in the car. In the afternoon, I distributed at the Va Ho, Turkey Red Restaurant, and the Bleeding Heart Brewery. I just had this idea. If I come across any books on hearts or heart repair, I will take them there and make a big deal about this.
