May 21, 2025: One Month until the Solstice

One month to go. And so, for another 30 days, the days will grow longer. Then for a month after, that is until July 21, the days will grow shorter, until they are the length that they are today.

I’m no longer squandering my outdoor time. It’s been a bit chilly, a bit windy, but I’ll take it as would those who live in the southern part of the U.S. In some places they are now experiencing relentless heat, with 100˚ F plus temperatures.

Lucky me – I have a literary work in progress right now, and am moving right along. I’m now writing new sections and fitting them into the scenario. And I am writing an hour-a-day, no less, not much more. I have high hopes for this book.

Zach working on Tyra's eye

Lucky me – I have three wonderful mares and a very cool veterinarian.

Today, Zach did the spring exams, which included flu rhino and tetanus vaccines. He also checked the mare’s vitals – one of many interesting things that he said is that horses have a higher heartrate when they have their heads down. I think that last year, Zach took the temperature when the horses were eating, hence the speculation about the mares being in good enough condition. This year the temperatures were far lower.

Lucky us – Zach said that we had some of the nicest horses around. This made me feel good because I put a lot of time and energy into their respective conversations.

Lucky us Zach flushed out Tyra’s tear duct and floated her teeth. He also checked, with stain, for an eye abrasion or corneal ulcer. Thankfully, nothing materialized.

Lucky us – both Pete and I talked about many things with Zach – and concluded by talking about the goat situation. Pete had said no more goats, but Zach seemed to think it wise to breed Swamp Thing and Sassy because they are milking goats, and this is what they were born to do.

Lucky me – my days are so full that like now, late at night, I have a hard time staying awake. I just want to curl into a ball and go to sleep.

The question I have is one that’s related to all other questions – it is about -- shit – I have forgotten it.

I hate it when this happens. I now am repeatedly falling asleep. I am at at my computer, which is on my standing desk. My legs have locked twice and I’ve twice nearly toppled over.

Lucky Pete, Lucky Alys – Pete’s right hand is way better now. Right now, as I’m writing this, he’s doing dishes. Good man. And he’s resumed doing the garden work. I just don’t have the time.

I do wonder what’s in store for us all. Am I going to continue to be as lucky as I am now? I suspect so. Yes, I suspect so.
