May 19, 2025: Lo and Behold

That is a very optimistic header. Lo and Behold, they arrived safely. Lo and Behold, it was a glorious sight. Lo and Behold, there were answers.

I’ll go with the latter; lo and behold, there were answers. Those of us who are curious are always coming up with questions and seeking answers. Sometimes, the answers elude us. Sometimes the answers elude us but not for long. Sometimes the answers elude us for a long, long time.

I have a lot of questions. Some of these questions have been answered, and I hope (there is that word) that the remaining questions will soon be answered.

Reading Rendezvous

It’s like this. I let the horses out of their enclosure in the mornings and they race up the hill behind the pen and graze. The question is not will the horses come back into the yard, but rather, when will the horses come back into the yard? It all depends on how hungry they are. It’s hard to know what questions horses in such instances ask themselves or one another because what horses think is, and should remain, a mystery. Otherwise, they’d be less horse-like. But I think they do in such instances have questions and in this case the questions that they might ask one another are, “what do you think?” “Should we stay put or should we go back down into the yard?” The three of them undoubtedly consider the consequences of their actions then act accordingly.

I always make sure that their hay is in sight because I’d hate for them to think that they made the wrong decision, in coming back down to the front area. If, say, they think they made the wrong decision, then the next time they might consider the alternative, which is to stay put on the hill.

As today’s story goes -- A week ago, I was contacted by an educator who lives in the village of White Mountain. She said that the school was wanting to part with a library full of books and could we take them? (This was her question).

I said I’d look into it. It took me some time to look into this because I was doing other things. I hadn’t quite answered the question, how are we going to get the books from White Mountain to Palmer? Because I didn’t know. I figured I’d contact Bering Air.

Well, on Saturday Pete and I were working the crowd at the Reading Rendezvous when a representative from Ryan Air approached me and asked if in the future, we’d need book transport. (This was her question.)

I started, literally, leaping for joy. I called Pete over and he talked further with Stephanie. And so, the question that was answered today was that, yes, Ryan Air could bring books to Nome, and then back to Anchorage.

And so, the questions now is, might I go to Nome and from there distribute books? I am thinking of contacting KNOM and seeing if they can give me an assist – I could do a book giveaway day.

Another question is, might I take someone with me? And yet another question is, where might we stay?

I will then say “lo and behold, the books have found an appreciative audience.”
