April 6, 2024: Saturday, all Day

Another very full day of work inside in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. Inside, warm, outside sloppy and gloppy, rain and snow mix. Palmer doesn’t have much snow. Here, on the home front, the snow is wet and heavy, and the snow is a snow rain mix in that order.

I figure, get the work done when the weather is crappy because when it gets good again, I will be outside.

I did get books boxed up for a village today. On Monday I’ll make some more calls and arrange for more books to go out. Boxing up books is easy – and very satisfying because in the process, a lot of books go, never to be seen again.

I am of course concerned as to what becomes of these books once they reach their final destination wherever this may be. The principals that I’ve spoken with recently have sounded reliable.

I am going to make another list before I call.

Tomorrow, no matter what the weather, I am getting all the horses out. I’m also going to clean the chicken and the goat pens. And Monday morning, I’ll get another ride or two in.

Outside, 9:13 p.m. and just now getting dark. This generally is a good time of year, weather wise, although I must concede that winter is like a pit bull this year, holding on tightly as it can, and not wanting to let go. Winter is a Republican and Spring is a Democrat. A double whammy here, I don’t understand weather or politics.

I lost a hearing aid yesterday. Not a good thing. In fact, a very bad thing. They are more expensive than beater cars. I reached up and touched my left ear and it was gone. I could not retrace my steps because I had been many, many places.

I have, my entire life, been an oblivious listener, tuning in when something or someone is of interest to me. My hearing loss made me more oblivious. Add to this, the acoustics in the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel are absolutely terrible. I hate saying “what” and having people repeat themselves. And I hate seeing people annoyed by this.

In November, when I went to Portland, to see my sister, I forgot my hearing aids. I knew that I was in for it. The acoustics in her living room are also terrible. And, she has no patience for being asked to repeat something, absolutely no patience at all.

So, with all this in mind, I wear the dang things. If I could have surgery and get the problem corrected, I would.
