Our realtor, Tom, also showed up. He had arial photos of the land we are interested in. I did not get to talk to him.
We had three events, a kids’ story hour, which was primarily attended by adults, a presentation on the Iditarod, and then a dog share. There were too many events, this is my final estimation. People wanted to spend time socializing, and I kept having to do my herding dog thing and move them along to the next event. I didn’t like having to do this, and most I likely came across as impatient. I feel bad about this.
If there are ever any other events, I will find someone else to MC. Who this might be I do not know – it’s going to be a tough nut to crack.
The kids’ story hour: Lois read from a book written by Sara Machetanz and illustrated by Fred Machetanz, a local artist; then a young child, about nine years old, read a book on combat dogs, with Lois coaching him. Brave child, and what a cool thing to do, to read a book to adults. We finished up this event with Pam reading the Wonky Donkey. This is an audience participation book – hee haw.
Next, Pam Hyuck and her family members talked about their role in getting the Iditarod going. Everyone learned a great deal.
The events concluded with open mic/dog sharing. I knew the afternoon was getting on, and I went far too fast. I also had too many herding dog books on hand. A big mistake. A good idea. I was thinking that in the future we can have book share days when people come in and talk about their favorite books. I think this is going to have to wait; it’s an idea to put on the back burner.
Next Taylor York talked about his service dog, Chloe, who he had with him. He also did hand painting. Chloe is an amazing dog, and Taylor had an incredible story to tell. I think that it’s a story that’s going that needs to be gotten on paper. Bea Adler, a board member, finished up by reading a few passages about dog behavior.
Tomorrow is Monday. Where did the weekend go? Another full week ahead.
