November 27, 2024: And so it Goes

The month of November, slipping like water through my hands. Where did this month go? I can pinpoint specific events, like going to Old Harbor, but still, this puzzles me, that is how time flies.

I feel like I’m still a spectator when it comes to the holiday season – I’m not in the thick of it. We won’t be invited to any holiday parties nor will host any. I can’t imagine it, people coming here en mass and enjoying egg nogg and doing the whole ho ho ho thing.

I still would like to get Hrimmi trained to pull a cart. The hard part seems to be finding a cart that fits her. And I’d like to get lessons from someone who knows about this sort of thing. This is what she would most like to do, and as I now often think, time’s a wasting.

It was cold here today, with temperatures near 0˚ F. Pete brought our Refrigirware suits in from the Black Hole last night – good timing as far as I’m concerned. I wore mine this morning and when tending to the horses, was warm. I’d been wearing lighter gear and getting chilled. Not a good thing when one has a cold – and I do have a cold right now.

Last night I thought that I’d have to cancel my physical therapy appointment and lay low today. But it is the sort of cold that is bothersome in idle moments. I was plugged up, and coughing some, but not noticeably sick. A few more days and I’ll be well again because fortunately, colds run their course.

I wonder how many people had colds and thought that they had Covid. Colds and covid are both viruses, so their being similar symptoms makes sense to me.

I sort of came up with a plan workout wise; I’m going to alternate swimming, and doing my exercises, and perhaps working out on the treadmill, first walking fast and later running.

I have a set number of appointments at Body and Balance, which is too bad because I’d like to continue with the workouts, and have my two physical therapists be personal trainers. This, I have been thinking, is what I missed out on all those years that I was running. Those who have trainers obviously have the edge.

I did work some at the hotel today, but left town after my physical therapy appointment, so that I might get home before dark and also get a horse out. I got home at dusk and took Raudi and the dogs for a walk.

The trees were frosted, and the sun was low lying, giving the mountains a pink tint. It was, indeed, a winter wonderland. And, because I was wearing my Refrigirware suit, I was focused on looking at the landscape instead of thinking about how cold I was. My feet, because I was wearing my Steiger mukluks, were also warm.

I did pay the price for exerting myself – the walk and the cold sapped me of energy.
