October 4, 2024: I don’t recall

The details related to the morning of this particular day. I think that early on, I wrote and responded to a lot of emails. This is the nature of the BLBP beast. And what a beast it is. It is large, too large for the former banquet room of the historic Eagle Hotel. It sheds little bits and pieces of book. Those who see the beast for the first time are very impressed by its weight and girth.

It is my job to keep the BLBP beast fed and in a good humor. Should I abandon it, and I have thought about this, but not seriously, it would implode. People love it, so they’d be very sad. There will never be another one like it.

The beast requires more of my time than it should. I hope that in the near future that others will take on my job. I won’t give up, but unless others step in, there is no way I will find a much-needed life balance.

I did go swimming today. The pool isn’t far from the hotel. I could easily bicycle there. I did a few laps. I treaded water and did the back stroke and after, got in the hot tub for a bit, that is until two other people got in. I got out for two reasons. The first is that the water isn’t quite hot enough. I wish there was a way to gradually up the temperature. Actually, I wish that I had my own hot tub. The other reason is that I like having the hot tub to myself. I really am not at all a big one for socializing and making small talk. And the hot tub talk is very, very small.

After, I went back to the hotel and made small talk. I can make small talk if I am doing something, like sorting books.

Tonight, I took Hrimmi for a ride. It was dusk out. Darkness is descending early now, so I must get home early if I expect to get in a ride or two or three.

It’s a good time of year to go horseback riding because the summer grass is now mostly history. This means that I pretty much have her undivided attention, although tonight, when out on the trails, she did stop twice to check out two grass patches. And if I hadn’t urged her on, she would have stopped more.

I took the dogs with me. As always, they were glad to get out. Didn’t see anyone – the only evidence of them was ATV ruts and tracks. Maybe a part of their agenda is to leave tracks behind. It’s their way of opening up the wilderness. To some, being out in the forest, surrounded by trees, is a fearful activity. A bear might eat you or a moose might trample you. This is partially why they carry guns. The other reason is that someone with bad intentions might be out on the trail and want to steal any guns that the interloper might have on hand.

The human race would be shocked if it took a close look at itself. Best it keep itself at the distance.
