August 6, 2024: Oh Brother, Where art Thou?

Quite the day on the work front – went to the Senior Center reading group meeting, talked quite a bit about the project and recruited people to walk in the Alaska Fair parade and read during the Alaska Fair story hour. In fact, I think that I’m set as far as the parade goes. It’s easy, walking and passing out books.

After, I went downstairs and passed out books in the Senior Center dining area. Hadn’t been there in some time. People were glad to see me. On Thursday, I’ll meet with Cathy and we’ll resume doing art work.

I also hadn’t been to any Palmer Lions Club meetings in some day. Dunno. The majority aren’t as interested in the book project as they ought to be. Seems like they would realize that this could be a good way of promoting their organization. Most are old, and I suppose set in their ways.

Why is it that when people get older, they get set in their ways? The answer could be that when people begin losing physical flexibility, they also begin losing mental flexibility. Yes, this lack of foresightedness could have something to do with the widening gap in the mind/body relationship.

Pat

Pete’s bother Pat is here with Laura, his grrrrrrrrrrl friend. They got in late last night; Pete got them a room at the Historic Eagle Hotel. They were at the former banquet room, rolling pennies, when I walked in at 1:00 p.m.

Pat is still his usual, happy self. Laura also seems like a happy individual. They assisted today in cleaning books – there were 12 volunteers total in the former banquet room.

We went on a side trip to the Palmer Visitor Center/Museum. I showed them the Targus, the phone booth in Dr. Who. They were impressed, I think, or they were being polite. The latest plan with the Targus is to put in bookshelves. I am hoping that Bill will put in the shelves. We are planning on moving it outside, where it will reside until we purchase the Eagle Hotel. It will then be housed in the Eagle Hotel.

Five minutes before our side trip, my hip seized up. I was in the bathroom and arose too quickly from the wiggly seat. Once again, I was walking like an L. I did all the things I usually do to get it back the way before it seized up. It helped some to walk, to lie down, to sit in a chair.

Okay. So I have now resigned myself to the fact that I am going to have to have an MRI. Then I can come up with a plan as to how to deal.

In the meantime, I will continue to work hard so that I don’t fret about the outcome. Easier said than done because I am not able to do as much moving around, and of course, I can’t do any heavy lifting.

Can’t ride, and this really sucks. I just can’t believe this is happening.
