July 25, 2024: No Rhyme or Reason

For this hip/lower back problem. Last night/today was a typical day. The hip seized up last night – I was sore all night. I got up, moved with a bend to my back. I knew it could have gone either way; the ways being that I’d feel better or I’d feel worse.

I did not do my body awareness exercises, as I should have. I was playing with fire and eating the flames.

I went to the hotel and packed up some boxes. I then packed Bill’s boxes. I then had an online meeting with Jenn and Susy, our two new board members and literacy experts. It went well. But all the while I was sitting in a metal chair I thought, if I stand up and it’s seized up, the day will be shot to hell. Fortunately, it was just fine.

Two bins of beautiful old books came in. They are moldy. I don’t know what to do with moldy books. And I don’t want to expend energy figuring this out. The word to describe how I feel is stymied.

I packed up some of the boxes of books going to the villages – I suspect that while at a table, lifting my arms up and putting books in boxes does more good than bending over books and cleaning them. If this is so, this may be an entire body issue. The question that this then brings to mind is, just how mindful does a person have to be? I am somewhat mindful, but I am not going to ever be extremely mindful. I move too fast for this to happen.

The most positive thing about all this is that movement is beneficial and seems to help. Now if this was the other way around, I’d be pulling out my hair and be bald like Pete. There is only so much even a secular humanist can take, and this would be pushing it.

I came home – we live in a very peaceful place. It’s still quite quiet here, and the ATV traffic is pretty minimal. There will be more activity when hunting season begins – this is not going to be for another three weeks. I hope that it’s a slow three weeks.

I got Tyra out, and braided her mane while she ate hay out of the hay bag. Then I brushed her. When I was done, I stepped back and took a close look. My goodness, she looked like a fat sport horse. She could stand to lose a few pounds but otherwise, looks good. She has dapples, always a good sign. And she has muscling in her shoulders and front.

Tyra and Pete will do very well this weekend because Pete is a calm and thoughtful rider. I won’t be there to see the start – it’s going to be at 8 a.m., and at that hour I’ll be taking care of the animals who live here. Oh, I just remembered that Raudi and Hrimmi will have one another for company. I kept thinking that Hrimmi would be here by herself.

The farrier is coming tomorrow at 8 a.m. This is going to make for a long day.
